Youwill have to speak to your wife's GP or consultant. She might have to have a fit to fly test. This will determine whether she is fit to travel and whether she will need inflight oxygen. Often the usual standard is, SATS over 95 and the ability to walk 100m without breathlessness. For insurance purposes you might need a letter stating she is fit to fly.

I flew to Madeira early March, whilst still recovering from swine flu, chest infection and as always copd. We were flying with Easyjet who do not provide inflight oxygen I had to make my own arrangements PureO2 were brilliant.

Tel 0870 712 0202- Richard really knows what he is talking about.

Just a thought - if your wife is susceptible to infections, could you check on the air quality of the air in the cabin. I picked up a nasty infection years ago, which affected ny chest. A rescue pack of anti bs???

I shall take my 1st Defence and puff up both nostrils before during and after my flight to Dubrovnik next week. I'll probably also wear some sort of scarf that I can quickly pull up over my nose n mouth if anyone so much as sniffs in my presence

I fly twice yearly to the USA. I have "low" COPD. I do exactly that peeg, it was recommended by my GP about 4 years ago and so far so good. Enjoy Dubrovnik !

Ah thanks for that mollysdad. I'm sailing out of Dubrovnik so hoping for sunshine & gentle breeze and trying not to think of rains, gales, cold!

If you are flying with Air Malta through Heathrow there is not alot of Walking if you need help at the other end just tell the air crew and they will get assistance for you. the flight is about 3 hours so not too long. Take medication before you get on then your chest will be as clear as it can be. Being at 7000ft can cause some mild breathing discomfort for people ( me included) but it soon wears off as long as you take it easy. good luck with the flight best wishes
