Hi I'm thinking of moving to Southern... - Lung Conditions C...
Hi I'm thinking of moving to Southern Spain anyone know if it will be better for my copd?
Hi, I'm thinking of trying the south of France next winter. Spain would be better though, warmer.
I once asked my GP where could I move to improve my condition, she laughed and said Spain!
Look up CanalChris' old posts. He just spent the winter in Southern Portugal and sent back very positive reports. Good luck with what ever you decide. P
As long as you have good insurance Spain. I have been advised not to fly now so looking at HS trains to Barcelona for next year.
Hi Offcut... Trains through France are great.....
So are the infections you can plck up.
We stayed with a friend in Cannes last December.
Both of us had the worst chest infection ever....
I had a full lung infection/failure after flying in 2008 so any where outside the home is a risk
Weather is much better and the Spanish doctors are quite switched on to COPD, they call it EPOC though and you can get most meds from the Pharmacia over the counter. here is a bit more info
Husband and I spent the greater parts of Jan & Feb this year in Portugal.......came home feeling great. Holiday insurance cover prevented a longer stay .
I could easily move there....... but could not cope with summer heat.
Hi budgies mum greatto hear you felt well could be another option spending winter months in spain
We always rent an apartment by the month. That we find is cost effective. Plenty of small apt's are available.....studio' are a no no.. for a long stay. Eating out in Portugal is not too bad.
If you don't want to fly there is a ferry to Northern Spain via the
Bay of Biscay with train or car to complete your journey...... Or if your as daft as we....... drive from
Calais. That's a holiday in itself.
Which we did this year..... getting long stay insurance is the only snag.
Although thank goodness never needed medical help... we believe Portugal accept the Ehic.
I havnt been to portugal what part do you visit?
We have been to various places along the Algarve and inland.
We prefer the central & some western parts of the Algarve....but it depends what you prefer. Small village or large town.
We feel the coast is better there.......husband likes seafishing
and the beaches are lovely. Would suggest somewhere between
Albufeira & Portimao. We like the small village of Alvor.
At the moment deciding when to go next.
We have a holiday home in Spain and spend at least 3 months in total each year out there.
I always feel really well when there but I have always loved the warm weather and hate the cold.Pharmacies are great and I can get any medication without a prescription. Luckily I have not needed a doctor yet (my COPD and Bronchiectasis are both still mild) but friends of ours who live there say the doctors are good but that you must take an interpretor with you if your Spanish isn't good. They do not charge much and are easy to find I believe.
We have been there at all times of the year but normally now avoid January(too cold) and August (to hot) but as long as you have Airconditioning and heating I would say go for it.
We are going to Andulucia this month to have a scout round and look at properties we have earmarked about 3 areas and various properties.I also love the sun and warm weather I get quite down in winter. Thanks for your reply and info.
