Great question, I am considering getting one for my mum too.

She was admitted to hospital again on Friday night, the paramedic put the probe on and it was 77!!! She is not on oxygen although I do feel she needs it at home now.

The only problem having a monitor at home I feel, is perhaps being a bit paranoid about using it continually to see what is going on.

I wouldn't know where to get one from or how much they cost though

Oh thank you, that's really helpful. I may well invest in one of those :-)

They are an asset, just to check now and again, as dazisnotsogood says don't get obsessed.

Good luck.

could you please tell me how much the finger monitors are to buy?

Many Thanks,

Wendy x

Hi Wendy, they vary in price, mine cost £50 from the House of Bath and I recommend it.

It's not the best and its not the most expensive. It is the only one this company does.

There are sure to be other suppliers with other options.

Good luck

I paid about £25 for mine. It's handy to have but as others have said don't get obsessed with it. x

Mine was £19.95 from Amazon. I've checked it against the hospital one and it's always been accurate. I've had it a few months now. Post is free.

Mine was also £19.95 from ebay. I must admit, novelty value means you try it to check everything you do but that soon wears off and you don't get obsessed with it!!

Have bought one - sounds like a good idea - and so easy to do sitting here! Look forward to being able to check my own levels, but will try not to become too obsessive. Does anyone else find that a side effect of copd is an obsession with the breathlessness ?

May be I am paranoid but I would not be without mine. I have got to know when I have done too much and when I should use oxygen. It'sa comfort to see when they are improving and a warning when they are dropping. Suzie Q

I bought one from Amazon and it was delivered last week. I can see why you can become obsessed with it. But I'm finding it very useful just to see what happens when I do various everyday things that people without COPD take for granted. My whole purpose of buying one was to see if I can do without oxygen therapy, so am keeping a sort of diary to talk to my lung specialist when I see her at the end of March. At the moment I rent a machine which costs me 75 euros a month so if I'm going to need one forever then I will need to buy one.

I use this one. amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00...

Test my levels every few days or so, or if feeling unusually SOB. Also gives your pulse rate.
