No it will not make her chest worse. My husband suffers with severe COPD and always has the flu jab (I do too as a carer). We had ours least Wednesday - I had an itchy arm for a few days, husband was fine. Flu can cause serious complications for COPD sufferers. It would also be wise for her to have the pneumonia vaccination. If you are unsure you could ring the BLF helpline (click on the red balloon) and they can answer any other questions you may have. Take care. TAD xx

No it will only be of benefit to her by reducing the risk of flu which can be much more serious in people with COPD.

I didn`t get round to having my flu jab last year. I ended up in hospital for over 5 weeks, I caught a flu virus which ended up with life threatening pneumonia. Im certainly having it every year now.

thanks susieqs will get it done straight away

Not having the flu jab could be detrimental to her health.

It won't make her chest worse. It could help her avoid further lung damage.

If she is allergic to eggs she needs to let her doctor know and a non egg based vaccine can be ordered in.

Your wife must have the flue jab and the pneumonia one as well.

My COPD nurse would be very upset with me, if I didn't have the jab. She also advises me not to have it if I have had a cold recently or have any symptoms of a cold. Then I should wait 6 weeks before having the jab.

I have just been diagnosed with COPD. My advice would be to have it. If she gets flu or any cold, I bet the first place it goes to is her chest so anything that prevents this has to be worthwhile! I have had several issues with my chest after having bad colds so I jumped at the chance to have mine.
