Which do you find the most effective way? I am asking because in hospital I used the mask then when I came home I used the mouth piece today I have gone to get a new one and find I have been given masks. I have used one and I actually feel as if I have taken in more of the nebs. Has anyone else had experience of both?

Nebuliser - mouth piece or mask?
I prefer the mouthpiece jandan. i don't find it as restrictive as the mask and it keeps the drug away from my eyes. If you have received your mask from the hospital equipment pool you can always 'phone them and arrange to pick some up if you wanted a mouthpiece, or let them know when your annual neb check is up.

Hi Janet, I'm afraid I can't offer an opinion as I've only ever used a mask with my nebuliser

I have got the mouthpiece version and am happy with it. I've never tried the mask so I can't compare them.
Good thing about the mask is that it would also go up your nose, presumably, and my nose and sinuses could do with some saline solution.

Hello Jandan,
I have used a mask or a mouth piece at different times while in hospital and both appear to be just as effective. The mask was better when I was taking a nebuliser and also on nasal oxygen as it was impossible to Breath the Nebuliser through the mouth and the oxygen through the nose.

I think like everything it depends on the person, ive used both, but I find the mask easier and maybe a little more effective. I think it's just personal prefrence. GoodLuck X
In hospital I am always given a mask for salbutamol or combivent but have different mouthpieces for Hypertonic saline and Colomycin. I find a mask much more comfortable with the bronchodilator meds because it is going in by nose and mouth and leaves your hands free while you are taking it. I've always been given to understand that I had to use a mouthpiece for saline and abx but maybe I'm wrong. Will check it out at the hospital if I can get through to physio.
I was given a mouth piece by the hospital techs because of the bad effect salbutamol has on the eyes however when I last had a bad exacerbation I found the mask (from the ambulance team) worked a lot better as breathing through the nose get the drug deeper into my lungs. While in hospital I told the specialist and she gave me a mask for home.As always it,s a very individual thing.D.
