I use my nebuliser around 4 times a day. The nebuliser was issued to me by my local hospital, it is a Respironics Delux and once a year I take it back and its replaced with a new one and a new mask and tubing. No matter how clean you keep the mask, they often expire, needing you to find a replacement.
Through out the year I have to purchase new masks from companies such as Evergreen Nebulisers and Respironics Direct which are quite costly.
My questions are: does everyone else pay for new masks? If they do, then where from? Or do the NHS povide them? and I have just not been informed about this?
Have a wonderful day everyone.

I'm sorry I have no idea about masks although it stands to reason that if the nebuliser was issued by the NHS they would replace the masks for reasons of hygiene & safety.
Spacers are supposed to be replaced by respiratory team every 6 months. When I requested one a few years ago (after using the same one for several years) the gp practice rang me to ask why I needed one & were very reluctant to prescibe one until I mentioned that a BLF nurse, an excellent respiratory nurse plus a consultant told me I should get a new one every 6 months & I'd been using the same one for over 4 years without washing it (can'twash n dry it in a day). You'd think I'd asked for the moon or a cure for asthma 🤔.
Hope someone answers your query soon, happy easter Joseph
Ridiculous isn't it, it'll cost them so much more if we get ill 🙄......I've got two so I alternate them (one was £8 from chemist) because it was such a pain trying to get one - and that was well pre-covid. Little hope of getting through to the surgery now. I do envy people who get a good service from their medics
Whenever I am at A&E or I'm taken into hospital I always take home any I use at the hospital, they would only put them in the bin. They fit my machines no problems
Hi Joseph, I only had a nebuliser temporarily as it didn't suit me but the respiratory team of nurses were responsible for issuing new masks and filters. Hope this is of some help.
I dont buy my masks. I get about 5 masks and tubes from my community respiratory when I contact them.I used to get a replacement nebuliser every year that has not happened for several years .
I've not had nebuliser serviced by hospital either for a few years now since covid started, its working fine but I change the small filters every 6 months which are not expensive to buy online and easy to fit for the machine I have, saves going in with it to the hospital as well so I don't mind, might be worth checking out.
Hi, my nebuliser was issued by the hospital and is changed every 3 years, I can ring up for spares mask, filter, tube and they just send it out to me, free if charge. Good luck, take care and stay safe.
my NHS in Suffolk doesn’t supply nebulisers, my GP does prescribe the saline solution to use with one but I had to buy my own nebuliser. I think if you have had one a long time and it was NHS provided they will continue to support you.
I buy four a year from Evergreen and use two every six months. I figure I need two a day to make sure the masks air dry. I mentioned this to my respiratory nurse and he instantly sent a new mask. I don’t begrudge the money I spend buying the masks since I am very grateful to the NHS for so many things. But I certainly recognise the principle that the masks should be supplied by the NHS.
I bought my own nebuliser during Covid and eventually returned the hospital one so have to buy my tubes and mouth piece from evergreen. For some strange reason the chambers for the Philips inspire have been out of stock for about a year and I can’t get a replacement anywhere - unless anyone knows different?
I have a NHS Respironics Delux Nebuliser, it’s changed after about 15 months and I then have a newly serviced one and new mask. I sterilise mask after each use, twice daily, in Milton solution, and dry it on gas boiler ready for next time. I also steriliser clean whole unit every few days. Good luck. Jean x
