I have been on and off steroids, do not much like the Moon Face yet alone the weight gain! Strangely my mother was on them for years and was skinny as a rake. She did have a Moon Face but no extra weight. Barely 6 st.
Hmm this has always puzzled me. But I do know she did not each very much. So perhaps
I need to cut down of my food intake.
I have gone from 7st to 9.5 st. in 3 months. Phew all happened so quickly.
Well guess stopping smoking has not helped.
From today I am cutting down lol
'call me moon face' !

You might all know more than me about this. My GP said that the side effects with tablet steroids are much worse than with inhaled. As you might remember I have just gone onto inhaled steroids.
I checked the leaflet and it says that moon face and weight gain are 'rare' being less than 1 person in a 1000. Those of you who suffer with it, are you on inhaled steroids?

Hi Lynne, tablet steroid is far worse than inhaled steroid. Moon face I get with tablet steroid not inhaled steroid. Weight gain more with tablet steroid too I think.
Having said that usually when we have a lung infection its more difficult to muster the puff and energy to incorporate exercise routine so my reckoning is this also plays a part especially when unwell for weeks at a time, and things become even more difficult the less active we become. But the good news is we can recover activity levels it just takes a while as we de condition so rapidly, hence the reason why exercise is so important however little we can manage.

been on steroid tablets on and off for 20years....now on maintenance dose all the time, but they keep me breathing!
I am very skinny, keep on losing weight....but not off my face or fat stomach
I do yoga and just started the Breathe Easy gym again, but makes no difference to the tum
Two things that helped my after a period of steroid belly was avoiding white bread and anything with commercial white flour in and the introduction of Spiriva. I found both these did the trick and oh such a relief to be able to breathe without the lungs feeling squashed. Other than that just the walk as you are doing. Can't think of anything else.
As far as I am aware (and my consultant told me this) high prolonged steroid use caused a shift in how the body stores fat. For women it's the face, back and belly. I certainly noticed it in all those areas. They make you retain water which obviously adds to bloating. So reduce salt intake and drink lots of water - strangely it makes you retain less water as your body knows its hydrated.
Apart from that there's little I can add but to wish you luck.
