fexofenadine v cetirizine

which do people find most effective at preventing angiodema/urticaria flares (partic around eyes, but also in gen)? Studies online seem to suggest cetirizine is more effective but specialists often prescribe fexo so I’m confused. Also does anyone combine them daily, and long term? And has anyone found that one used to work for them but stopped working so they switched and it was effective? Thank you!

I started taking Cetirizine for first time today when month long runny nose got worse, plus I wanted to sit out! I took Piriton for years then it started making me so sleepy, onto Triludan for more years then someone found it didn't mix with grape juice, so off the market. Cetirizine gives me no side effects, works for any allergy, inc. cat and is otc. Hope you find what suits you and you can enjoy the sun! ☀️😎

Fexo works for me but there’s a newer one - levocetirizine - which I’ve heard is really good. Presumably it’s a derivative of cetirizine

hiya, I was on it four times a day but doesn’t work anymore, I’ve switched to cetirizine a couple of days ago and so far so good although it’s alongside steroids, as nothing was working after five days. I looked up the new derivative and couldn’t find evidence that it was proven more effective but will research a bit more! :-)

I was only prescribed ceterizine up to 40mg a day which worked. After the initial dose I bought OVer The Counter ceterizine for up to 4 years at a lower dose after which some foods, bananas, oranges, tomatoes etc stopped exacerbating the urticaria.

Hi Thomas I’ve been on four a day fexofenadine but it’s stopped working so have switched to cetirizine 4 x10mg.

4×10? That's a lot right? I thought it was 1 for 24 hours. Maybe I need to up my dosage. I take the cetrizine with the decongestant 5mg twice per day and it works really well but sometimes gives me a little insomnia.

yeah it’s a lot but GPs are now allowed to prescribe up to four times the licensed dose. It’s meant to calm the mast cells right down.

Hiya.i don't have uticaria/angioedema but do have allergies.ive found fenofexadine best for me & during spring- autumn take loratidine - I find it better for me than cetrizine. I take fenofexadine in morn & loratidine late afternoon

Hi there thanks for your reply:-) am interested to know why you added loratadine and not a second fexofenadine?
