Do you know why that is, JaimeGrace? Where did you find it out? Hello 👋 by the way!

I asked my local pharmacy as I couldn't get an appointment to my GP/Doctor. I knew with Gaviscon I wouldn't have it 2 hours before and after taking my Omeprazole and on my fexofenadine I says do not take indigestion remines 2 hours before or after taking this medicine. So it got me thinking. Found out I have to take fexofenadine , Omeprazole and Gaviscon at least 2 hours of each other as tablets needs stomach acid to absorb the medicine, but Omeprazole and Gaviscon reduce stomach acid.

Thanks Jaime, that’s really helpful. I’m on other drugs which shouldn’t be taken within 2hrs eg doxycycline, itraconazole. Now fexo too! It’s very difficult to manage multiple medications. We also have to think about with/without food! I might have to take esomeprazole the moment I wake up, then delay breakfast for 2hrs 🤷‍♀️

I take so many meds for asthma and side affects of the asthma meds. I would be forever having medication alarms going off.

I asked my pharmacist when I was prescribed Fexofenadine 3 years ago, as I had been taking Lansoprazol for years. He said it was fine taking them together. I take them both first thing in the morning. Trevor

I have been told (now) not to take any indigestion medication close to my fexofenadine

That's intriguing as I have been taking abother similar drug called Rabeprazole with Fexofenadine for a long time.

I have to take these two medications 2 hrs apart too. Not a problem at the moment but I will have remind myself when I start taking Fexofendine for hayfever. Thanks for the reminder.

Hi Jaime

I take fexofenadine and omeprazole. I don't think you need to worry about when you take the omeprazole because it doesn't act in the same way. You take Gavison after eating and this forms a protective layer, sitting on top of your stomach contents and preventing the stomach acid rising up and causing discomfort whilst you digest the meal. Anything you eat after taking it for a couple of hours would be less well digested as it will land in the protective layer.

Omeprazole actually stops your stomach from producing so much stomach acid, it's a proton pump inhibitor. It doesn't have an instant effect, it takes two or three days to take effect (nhs.uk/medicines/omeprazole... and continues to work for a few days. The point at which you take it shouldn't affect your absorption of the fexofenadine.

I hope this makes sense

Best Wishes

Jenny

yes u do have to watch what meds u take with what. Omeprazole can stop fexofenadine from working properly.
