Hi everyone, I know I have been away foe a long time , changes in circumstances lol. So I have esinophillic asthma, and I have just been put on statins , Atorvastatin 40mg . But I have read you can't take with Montelukast or Azithromicin antibiotic. Both of which I take regularly. Has anyone on Atorvastatin and on Montelukast and Azithromicin and been OK. I'm worried now to take the statin . Thank you so much .

That does help thank you for your reply , do you have any side effects with the statin , I also have Fibromyalgia and Osteoarthritis. So pain is nothing new to me , and because I am on so many meds for my asthma I can't really take the painkillers for Fibromyalgia. So I'm not sure if it's the statin increasing my pain or just a fibro flare . X

I’m on a lot of meds as well. The pain clinic have just asked my GP to start titrating my current pain meds (70mg Amitriptyline) down but, introducing duloxetine with gradually at 30mg and climbing to 60mg and finally 60mg twice a day for the pain.. Once that’s done, the GP will gradually swap over my Dihydrocodeine and Paracetamol for Bupronorphine patches. I’m 79 and have bi lateral hip replacements. The right hip replacement managed to damage nerves in my back, mess up my lower back facet joints and also turned my knee in and if I try to straighten it - my foot turns out 🤣😂🤣. I also have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia….and there was me thinking it was all down to growing old 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤣😂

Hi, I did not know there was a problem with statins and montelukast!

I have been on montelukast for years, I was on statins for 18 months . I also have 5 different inhalers everyday for my asthma.

I have stopped the statins because I had increasing pain and muscle weakness. It is very likely that I also have Fibro. But we did wonder if that might be due to statins, I am not sure. They were checking the level of Creatine Kinase in my blood - an indicator of muscle breakdown . Statins can, in rare cases (supposedly,) cause Myositis - muscle breakdown - however I have spoken to lots of people with experience of, or know someone who has, this,

I guess if I were you I would maybe keep a diary of your symptoms for a while. It’s easy for things to get missed and just blamed on Fibro once it’s been diagnosed. Very hard to unpick which symptom is caused by what!

There are other statins and alternatives for high cholesterol (if that is why you are on statins.)

I wish you all the best.

I'd speak to pharmacist

Heck, you've got me worried too. My Atvorstatin is 40mg, Azith in winter only and Montelukast nightly. 😳

PS, how much Atvorstatin do you take? Perhaps other statins are better........

I have been prescribed a Z-pak a couple different times (azithromycin) & I have been on Atorvastatin 40mg for many years. I have never had an issue with taking both.

Hi Honeysuckle21, sorry I didn't see your message earlier as I was not checking my account//emails since some time. I have recent experience with montelukast and its all positive so far (by God'sgrace). I was very worried to take it but it is the only thing that worked when I had a flare up 3 weeks ago & I am still taking them. I am grateful for positive and encouraging suggestions/advise from the lovely & wonderful people on this forum. As for the other medications I have no experience personally, I think it will be good idea to speak to your pharmacist or GP. Hope you find this useful & feel well soon. Take care.
