Montelukast Timing

I'm taking Montelukast for asthma which seems to be working well.....although a few occasions I have got very wheezy/SOB in the evening....I don't take the montelukast until as late as possible (around 11pm) as it says you need to take it in the evening.....if you take this tablet for asthma, what time do you take it?

Just wondering why you waiting to take it as late as possible? Can take any time in evening. I no longer take it but used to take around 20:00.Your medications should mean you don’t get sob in evening. The fact it doesn’t suggests you should have meds reviewed by asthma nurse.

I agree re a review. It's unlikely to be the montelukast itself doing this (ie evening symptoms because it's taken late on). I wouldn't have thought taking it a couple of hours earlier would magically stop the symptoms because, being once a day, it will be a long-acting drug. But as Bevvy says, the fact you are quite symptomatic every evening suggests there is a lack of control and so a review is needed.

Montelukast should last 14 hours....however it takes a few hours to work

As others have said night time symptoms (as are morning symptoms) can be a "sign" that you need an asthma review and a little something extra even if it's only temporary

I take my Montelukast with my evening meal somewhere between 6 and 7pm.

May be worth reviewing what else you do prior to your SOB? Exercise, dust, allergies etc? Being aware of your triggers can hopefully help minimise/ manage symptoms. Wishing you all the best.

Hi, I take Montelucast, and find it very helpful in my Sevrre Asthma toolkit. I take it about 10pm.. If you are finding any of your meds are not working as well as usual, i would definately suggest a review with your medical team, best wishes..

So I've been taking Montelukast for 2 years. I've actually switched it to the morning as I was having nightmares. It's not the Montelukast I agree with the others it's a long term drug and you shouldn't be having these symptoms in the evening. Short of breath is your maintenance drugs e.g. inhalers. You probably need a review if you are having these symptoms.

I have been taking it for two months, initially it worked well , the tablets were small and square . The second pack are round, larger and film coated .They don’t seem as effective so I need to use Salbutamol in on waking.

I take my Montelukast around 8pm. I did try taking it in the morning for about a week but it didn't suit me at all.

I take mine about 7.30 - 8pm. My think is that it will be in my bloodstream by the time I go to bed.

I take it whenever I go to bed, just right before sleep. So it can be anytime between 10:30 pm and 2 am!

Hi there, I also take Montelucast and my consultant said to take it when I go to bed in the evening as it works better. So I take it between 10 and 11 pm
