If you do a search for Montelukast on this site, you’ll find a number of previous posts enquiring about it over time. People take the medication at different times and adapt as needed/tolerated. My respiratory team are happy about my taking it in the morning, and it works for me. 🤷♀️
Well I've been on it 4 weeks now with no side affects, so far but wow what a difference it has made to me, I noticed a difference after only a couple of days
Have not associated Montelukast with the shivers, I get these quite a lot at night, so much so I have to get up and go downstairs for rest of night. Thank you for mentioning this x
hi disco balls , I take Montelukadt for asthma and find that these tablets remove a considerable amount of stringy mucus that would otherwise congestion my lungs. My oxygen saturation has gone from 93 to 97 so in my case I find they help me a lot. I take them at night just before I go to bed. I haven’t noticed I sweat but found I have to go to the toilet more often I’m not sure if this medication is the cause.
I took montelukast as a kid and didn’t have any side effects. Recently, I was prescribed it again, in my 30’s, and after a couple months I noticed I was crying almost every day at nothing. I was having panic attacks constantly in random places and just felt like I was going crazy. I even had darker thoughts during my panic attack episodes. It was very scary! I was then prescribed Zoloft for the anxiety. But this didn’t seem right as I’ve never experienced severe anxiety like this, it was very out of the normal for me. My Doctor didn’t tell me, but after researching myself, I found Montelukast has had a black box warning added recently for psych symptoms and other pretty major side effects (vivid dreams and flu like symptoms included). I then found a Facebook group for support for people with Montelukast side effects (over 20,000 people and growing). I stopped taking it and feel so much better mentally. Yes my asthma needs more control, but I found my previous medications worked for me. While it’s mostly concerning for children, it seems people of all ages experience these symptoms. There is some recent FDA research on this medication, and it seems it crosses the blood brain barrier and stores in the brain (they considered this medication as an Alzheimer’s treatment at one point). Of course, it’s effective for many people but is important to be aware of for any side effects and how it may affect your body. Here are some links to letters to the FDA and the warning information.
