Trelegy ellipta post inhalation cough anyone?

I have been on this med for one month. I was taking Fostair Nexthaler 100 mgs but post Covid in October I was struggling to recover my lung capacity.

I find that for an hour or so after my once a day inhalation I have a tickly cough. I do rinse my mouth out and gargle afterwards. My peak flow has improved from 200 to 250ish but I seem to have more upper lung ‘tightness’.

I realise that one month is not long to evaluate the effects of a change of med but has anyone else had this coughing and ‘tightness’?

Yes, I had the same problem. They increased the dosage of the ellipta inhaler and nothing improved. It turns out powder inhalers make my asthma worse. They do improve my peak flow but my lungs feel awful on them and I'm constantly coughing, which is exhausting. They put me on Fostair and I immediately improved, which obviously wouldn't help in your situation.

I would suggest speaking with your doctor regardless. Inhalers are supposed to remove that tight feeling, not exacerbate it.

Definitely go back to your doctor, as despite the increased peak flow results, you're experiencing chest tightness and a cough. Any one of the 3 medications or another ingredient could be the culprit.

It's not necessary to take these medicine types in one inhaler. Your doctor could increase the Fostair to a 200/6 strength plus prescribe a separate LAMA inhaler, such as Spiriva, which you may tolerate better than the umeclidinium bromide (LAMA) in the Trelegy. I found Eklira Genuair worked well for me. Anyway, you know Fostair is not making things worse, so finding an add on inhaler is less complicated and at least you can then pin point what is triggering your symptoms.

Personally, I find the triple inhalers unhelpful as you can't increase the dose during a flare up, solely because of the LAMA medication and the levels of steroid can be quite low.

And when you take a LAMA medication, it's important to check your blood pressure occasionally and have regular eye tests.
