spiriva resprimat inhaler symptoms

Hi everyone , I have been on a new inhaler Spiriva Resprimat 12 days and been really good , however the last few days it’s been an effort to breath and a chesty cough , also a stuffy nose . I’m not sure whether to stop it to see if symptoms go away , or if it’s a virus starting ? . Has anyone experienced these symptoms? Thank you Jules

I have been on Spiriva for 6 months now and is has been very sucessful, I take mine at night and use a spacer. I have found that one puff is enough for me, if I take two puffs it makes me cough. Ask your Doc before changing anything.

I have been on Spiriva Respimat for a while now but don't see how I can fit a spacer, where did you get yours, thanks.

I got my spacer on prescription, it is the same one that fits my salbutamol and Fostair. I note that the shape of the Spiriva mouthpiece is slightly different but my spacer has a silicone rubber opening so I just shove it on. Mine is a "Space Chamber Plus" from Medical Developments International Ltd. I have two others that are similar. The spacer gives a much better "uptake" .

Hi

Not sure you are meant to use Spiriva with a spacer - it’s a ‘ soft mist’ inhaler….

Maybe worth a check??

👍😊

I was trying to use it with a spacer and it wasn't quite right. I asked the asthma nurses at the Brompton and they told me not to use a spacer as it is not necessary and it not made to be used with a spacer. It works differently from other inhalers.

My asthma nurse (edit) told me to use the spacer as it makes it more effective! You would think that such advice would be standard across the NHS. Obviously not, anyway it seems to work for me :-)

Well if it works that's the main thing! It was explained to me that Spiriva has a different delivery mechanism to other inhalers that have an aerosol action. I did use a spacer with Spiriva when I was first prescribed it, but it never fitted the spacer properly and when the hospital asthma nurses checked my technique it was then that I was told Spiriva wasn't meant to be used with a spacer. It might be that there is a special spacer that fits onto it properly, but I don't have one of those. Best wishes.

I've used spiriva respimat and braltus (same drug just different delivery) before that and the only thing I did notice, which is listed somewhere as common was a sinus headache type pain for a few days ... the same place I read that also said it "resolves quickly" which it did

But I've not had the symptoms you've said.. its not hayfever is it? ... stuffy nose, chesty cough no temperature?

Not what you're looking for?
