Easyhaler vs salamol
Sorry I was meant to put foxtail inhaler on my post not foxtail. It wasn't until I read it ill spelt it wrong my mistake
Hi, yes, same here. Myself and 3 children have all been swapped to Salamol and are all finding it to be much less effective.
One child has been to A and E because they were struggling and another has had an emergency GP appointment and needed steroids. I have spoken to our Drs and we have appointments (in December!) to discuss alternatives.
My asthma is generally poorly controlled and I am on several meds- Bricanyl is a reliever turbohaler which I find helps a fair bit. I believe ventolin is available as a device without propellants (some sort of breath activated powder, I think, similar to Nexthaler or turbohaler.)
I am not sure if it’s a money saving exercise or due to concerns re: environmental impact of the propellant.
I hope you get some relief soon- it’s hard work when breathing is not easy.
The Ventolin Evohaler is a pMDI inhaler and has exactly the same non cfc propellant as salamol - therefore it is no worse for the environment than Salamol. So it is possible to have pressured reliever inhalers - not dry powder (dpi) - that are not Salamol.
There is some Ethanol in Salamol, there isn’t in the Ventolin Evohaler.
There's been quite a few posts about patients being changed from Fostair to Luforbec, in the main they have seen a decline in their asthma control. Same for Ventolin to Salamol, not as effective.Have you checked your peak flow regularly to see if that's not as good as usual? It's one way to demonstrate to your doctor that the changes to generic medication hasn't gone well for you. If you think that the change has been detrimental to your health then don't hesitate to tell your doctor or asthma nurse.
I've been using Salamol for several years, although my asthma is controlled most if the time so I only use it infrequently. I find it just as good as Ventolin, especially when used with a spacer. My preventer inhaler is Duoresp Spiromax 320/9. I had an exacerbation of asthma just over 3 weeks ago which need a week if steroids and two weeks of antibiotics to sort it out.
I'd contact Yr gp if change in inhalers r detrimental to u x
My doctor changed my Ventolin inhaler to Salamol CFC-Free inhaler. I have no doubt in my mind that Salamol CFC-Free is less effective that Ventolin..
