CT scan results, still waiting

So had my CT scan over a week ago and have not heard anything yet, it’s so frustrating as my anxiety is going up and up with not knowing.

I’m not sure how long results take to come back though

Anyone else had one?

They can sometimes take weeks to come back, so don’t be surprised if you don’t hear anything for a while. Do you have an outpatient appointment booked for results?

Results can take 2-3 weeks to come back.

Results take a couple of weeks - I hope you have a hospital or GP appointment soon to discuss the results if not be proactive and get an appointment x Anita

Hi all I spoke to the secretary of the specialist who sent me for the scan and she said he will send me a letter, not sure if that’s a good or bad thing

I would imagine it's standard practice - unless you have a follow up appointment booked, which at the moment might well be unlikely.

CT scan end September, no follow up booked, still waiting for result. Checked with GP (asthma clinic forgets to send patient copy), but also nothing - said give it till after Xmas then chase.

That seems an extremely long time to be waiting Singlouder. Perhaps it’s worth you calling the hospital to chase it up. Only good things is, that if there is a problem, patients are either told on the day...or within a very short while. In May 2019, I was sent for a CT scan for suspected blood clots in the lungs....but was told within minutes, that there were no blood clots but, there were definite signs of (very) late onset asthma, including inflammation of the small airways, areas of ‘tree in bud’ and mucus plugging deep in the lungs. I was extremely fortunate in being rapidly referred to a superb respiratory clinic, who have been taking care of me ever since. Throughout the pandemic the consultant has been in touch regularly, adjusting, tweaking and adding medications in an effort to get things under control. Truly hope that you - and everyone else receives their results soon.

They will let you know it’s pretty quick

For me it’s a comparison thing

I had an ordinary X-ray on my right hand, waited two weeks and then got a telephone appointment only to be told by the GP that she didn’t understand the report!!!!!!!!!

I think they actually tend to look at it quite quickly and if there is anything majorly concerning they would probably let you know as they'd want to follow up. When I had one in July they asked if I had an appt coming up, I said yes in a couple of weeks, so they said I didn't need to wait around in the department then (presumably if I'd said 6 months they might have told me to hang on just to make sure there was nothing immediately concerning).

It sounds like you'll be getting the results from your letter so at least you'll know - but my impression with how it usually works is that if it were anything urgent they'd have called you.

As lysistrata stated they check pretty much straight away, you get results either at next appointment or by letter.

Normal practice is if anything out of the ordinary or just unclear you would hear back much quicker for follow up or further investigations.

So no news is often good news 🙂 think I waited about 9 weeks for ct results few months ago (everything is obviously prioritised non urgents can usually wait a little as some staff are redeployed to covid areas) your gp will normally get a copy same time as you so they're probably equally as frustrated.

Yep.. no news is good news I reckon!Pretty sure you would have heard if anything was majorly amiss.

Try not to let it spoil your Christmas.😊

I had an MRI scan about 3 weeks ago and got my results in this morning. I wouldn't worry if it takes another couple of weeks. No news is good news hopefully!

Usually a longer wait for results is a good sign, as it means it’s nothing to worry about and the docs aren’t concerned. But results for anything often take 6-8 weeks so hope this helps

I suspect it all depends on what region you are in. I had a CT scan on Friday and was told four weeks.

Hi there. I had a ct scan of lungs a few weeks ago. Because it showed an infection the consultant wrote to me. About a week later. Can you ring to see if they have them in. I understand the anxiety. It’s very hard waiting for results.
