HI all,

Im going to have a CT scan on my lungs next week and the information sheet mentions that I may need a dye injection.

Does anyone know if I need the dye injection for the CT scan of my lungs or anything else about it.

thanks

Pete

Hey,

I've had a few CT scans on my lungs and I've had the dye twice. I had it the first time when I had chest pain whenever I coughed, laughed, walked, it was to check for blood clots on my lungs I think (someone correct me if I'm wrong) the dye shows up in the blood vessels around the lungs. This also allows them to check how the blood vessels around your lungs look sometimes in people with asthma and other lung diseases the vessels can become more 'muscular' because we have to work harder. This can affect your oxygen levels and the pressure between your heart and lungs.

HI Guys,

thanks for the quick replies.

I think your right about the dye showing up in the blood vessels around the lungs.

I have had enough needles in my life, so Im not too bothered about another one but the dye sounds a bit worrying especially the possilble side effects but I will just have to wait and see.

take care

Pete

Don't be surprised if you have unusual coloured wee afterwards if you have the dye. You will also be radioactive for 48 hours too so don't go near pregnant ladies or babies.

The dye used in a ct for lung disease is ok not radio active thats the dye used specifically to show blood clots. If you have the ct dye no probs except when have it you get a warm sensation like your weeing yourself but you dont so dont worry pete.

Like TKS says ct are used more widely now so they can see if its definately asthma or somethin else or aswell and too ee if any permenent scaring has been left on your lungs. These days its as common a test as spirometry. Your not chlostrophbic are you?

good luck

Hi

I had a CT with dye in July and its made me sick and then i stayed rather queasy for a few hours after as well as fuzzy headed too.

I hope it doesnt give you any problems , i know a few people that have had the dye with no problems so its the same old story , its different for everyone.

Good luck

I had my 1st broncostomy yesterday and am going in for a CT next month. I never get a straight answe from the docs,I just keep my fingers crossed.
