I have seasonal asthma in winter. Started on the above one puff twice a day since last week. I have been getting a sore throat with it and am just wondering whether I should continue with it. I am due to go backpacking next week. I have been unable to contact the asthma specialist as he comes to the surgery once a week. Before I use to take becotide twice a day and ventolin as required. I very rarely use the ventolin. It does help as am a smoker with no intention of quitting. The asthma is mild. Just need some advice whether I should stop due to sorehroat. I would have persisted if I was not going away but I do not want the sorethroatvto spoil my travel. I think changing medication before travelling was a bad idea. Thanks

Smoking is one of the first things to give you a sore throat but with regards Fostair you should have been advised to rinse out your mouth after using your inhaler
Yes I know about rinsing my mouth after using fostair. One week is not long enough will give it another week and then contact the asthma specialist for advice.
It sounds like you need to do more than just rinse your mouth after using your inhaler. Thoroughly brush your teeth and gargle (I use Listerine but you choose your own potion).
If you still suffer from a sore throat then have a chat with your pharmacist as they probably have a better idea about side effects - definitely tell them that you smoke, just in case this is a factor.
I feel angry that you smoke and visit this forum. I lose the ability to breathe when someone smokes near me. I am not normally an argumentative or aggressive person.
Hi SheilaC, I understand your comment completely and it’s nothing to do with being argumentative or aggressive.
My wife smoked for many years, she died of cancer and near the end regretted having ever smoked.
It makes me frustrated when I see young people out and about smoking, you feel like telling them to wise up.
The first thing a doctor asks when investigating asthma is do you smoke, if you say yes they then tell you to stop for the sake of your health, it really isn’t rocket science.
I used to find that becotide gave me frequent infections, but Fostair has been brilliant for me - a revolution. I'd stick with it, but do rinse - although I don't. Perhaps you've caught a little something from elsewhere? I used to find that glasses in local pubs were a source of nasties.
I don’t think you should quit your fostair -especially if you are going away back packing. Your chest may flare up. I think it’s better to be breathing well and have the sore throat (and the sore throat may be viral and unconnected to the Fostair). You should see a medic-even a GP rather than the asthma specialist if that’s all you have time to fit in. I take Fostair but have no ill effects from it. I do use a spacer and I do brush my teeth immediately after using it and rinse my mouth.
Good luck and enjoy your trip x
Hi
Fostair gave me a sore throat for a while & then it calmed down. Give it a bit more time for your body to get used to it. Good luck.
I really didn’t get along with the nexthaler maybe you could ask for the normal MDI fostair and use with a spacer as should reduce sore throat. Hope it gets better. X
