Which one is better fostair nexthaler or fostair aerosol? Currently using fostair nexthaler but am thinking of asking to change to the aerosol. Do not like the powder much and you need to have the right technique to use also quite bulky to carry in your pocket. Is fostair nexthaler more effective than the normal one.?Currently on mart regimen and have been using fostair nexthaler 100/6 one puff twice a day since Feb. Since asthma is seasonal in winter I usually stop taking it in the summer but due to coronavirus I have continued .Asthma controlled at the moment. Thanks

Fostair nexthaler or fostair aerosol
I have just been discharged from hospital after 13days . My specialist changed my medication from Fostair 100/6 to Fostair 200/6 next inhaler. As you say it is quite bulky but the main problem that I had was that some of the dry powder remains in my mouth and also made me violently sick. I was immediately changed to the wet version and up to now have had no problems. Incidentally I have 2 types of Asthma (Brittle & Eosinophilic ) and awaiting biologic s. I suggest you try to contact your specialist or GP for further advise. Keep Well & Safe
Hi
Neither is better but it’s individual preference. Personally I prefer dpi (powder) inhalers time MDIs (sprays) but others prefer the other way round. With the right technique they’ll have the same effectiveness of it’s the same dose (however they usually prefer spacers with MDIs).
If you think you prefer MDIs talk to your GP or AN and ask if you can swap
Hope this helps
Hi ahfat41
As EmmaF91 has said - I usually much prefer the DPI inhalers.. However I absolutely hated the Nexthaler!
I ended up with mouthfuls of powder whichever way I tried to inhale it. I’m really not sure how they can say there are ultra fine particles in this inhaler - when clearly there are not! 🤔
Anyway it is all about personal preference. You should give the Fostair MDI a go.. I think you will find it very different but you will need a spacer (which in itself is very bulky to carry around - another reason I avoid MDI) and this may ultimately make the decision for you.
Have a chat with your Doc but remember there are also different types of DPI you can try if Fostair is not right for you.
Take care😊👍
Do you have to use spacer with fostair that would put me off to carry something bulky? Will stick to fostair nexthaler as just manage to get right technique. Carrying a spacer with me will be an issue. Thanks
You don’t have to use a spacer. It’s just highly recommended as it improves uptake of the drug (up to 80% more efficiency when using a spacer) and also can reduce side effect. But this is the same whatever MDI you use.
Hope this helps and that you find the right inhaler for you!
If you do decide to stick with the nexthaler you may find this useful; asthma.org.uk/advice/inhale...
I prefer a spray and use it with a spacer
I do not find the spacer too bad as I always carry a small backpack with emergency medications including a bottle of water spare masks etc with me at all times and find that nobody bothers if I use them in public
Good luck with your own solution with this problem
