4th admission!

Brittle Asthma. Please can anyone tell me if they have experience with Spiriva Respimat 2.5 x twice a day. On top of Fostair 200/6

Bit miffed that yet another ‘thing’ added following this 4th admission this year. One good thing though, Consultant happy to continue with Xolair as he feels this admission is a ‘blip’! #winning

Is that the Fostair Nexthaler? I take that and Spiriva (plus montekulast and Phyllocontin) and it all does something, although falls short of full control. I thought the Spiriva wasn't doing anything as the Handihaler didn't, but then my GP messed up and I had no Respimat for 4 days. It was definitely doing something!

Did they show you how to put it together and use it? It is a bit Ikea-ish but you get the hang (I bang the canister on something to get it in), and I find it helpful to.keep an eye on technique and make sure I hold my breath and don't get lazy.

I am sorry to hear that you have been admitted... have you escaped yet?

I don’t have ba or use Spiriva but I do use (I think) the cheaper alternative called Braltus... this is one dose daily tiotropium? Am I correct in thinking this is the same drug but different name??

If so I think it has helped me a little as it provides longer acting muscarinic treatment throughout the day. However it has not been a magic bullet for me - sadly!

I think the tiotropium is the same thing. There are two types of inhalers. One, you put the capsule in the contraption, pierce it and inhale the powder. The other one is a bit more complicated from what I am told, but easier to inhale the medicine. It is licensed for COPD but they have started adding them for certain asthma patients. I also use the Symbicort SMART regime. I guess I am ok with it. I have gotten through this chest infection with no need of an admission. Always a good sign! 😊

I take spiriva respimat, fostair 200/6 and montelukast plus fexofenadine when the pollen gets high. It seems to be controlling it, although I had a blip in June when I had to take oral steroids , so it’s not perfect but a lot better than before.

Thank you my lovelies. Feeling a lot more human today. Now to see if I go nebuliser free today!
