Bad Asthma Flare

Recently I've had a very severe asthma flare due to a cold and bronchitis. My question is Why am I having trouble breathing and hurts to breath but yet my stats on the oximeter say 99%? Am really having trouble understanding this. I was put on prednisone 40 mgs for 5 days then dropped, plus doing nebulizer treatments 4 times daily. 3 days later I wound up in the ER, they gave me IV fluids and IV of 80 mgs of steroids and another breathing treatment, sent me home with another 10 supply of prednisone. So here I am starting all over again. I relapsed due to a compromised immune system, my cold started over again today too. Am sick of being sick. Does anyone use a lung exerciser when well?

Hi Krazy-girl,

Have you done a sputum test to wean out some type of bacteria that might be causing your infection. Regarding the immune system...I believe that really taking care of your gut would be a good start. Get your gut biome on a healthy level....so eating well, probiotic, fermented foods etc... With all the health summits I listened to with all type of diseases....they all talk about getting your gut in good shape. I use buteyko breathing to help me, but it's not for everyone and it takes commitment. Don't know if your on a maintenance inhaler ....like qvar. Might help till you figure out how to make your immune system work better. They are so much we have to do to keep us healthy....ask and research a lot.

I hope you feel better.....God bless and my prayers for you.

Hi sagittar, yes I'm on 4 maintenance inhalers a day plus singular. I also have gut issues but I eat clean. Lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, baked, broiled or boiled chicken, fish, healthy fats like olive oil, no gluten, sugar, dairy or citrus.

If you can....see if you have leaky gut syndrome or something else. that will cause inflammation on our body like Asthma etc. I know if that is healed...according to my findings that, your symptoms will improve....Good luck and focus on health....

Sorry to hear that you have been unwell. Just remember that it does take time to recover, especially when you have asthma on top of an illness. Try to take it easy. I do get high oxygen sats when I feel bad. It could be because you are breathing harder and your heart is pumping harder to get the oxygen around. It doesn't mean that you don't have asthma symptoms. Take care and hope you feel better soon. x

I’m just recovering from my worst attack ever and I was the same as you with my oxygen sats after 12 days on predsinole I started expelling the mucus from my lungs and am now on a course of antibiotics as the mucus showed signs of infection x
