I have just registered tonight and have only diagnosed with asthma last year. I have both inhalers use one regularly morning and night and due to cold weather the other when required, however I cough at night and this keeps me awake could anyone help with some advice
Can I ask which inhalers you are on? I'm presuming the one you use occasionally is Ventolin and that the other is a steroid ""preventer"". Do you use your preventer all the time or only regularly in cold weather? I ask because it is more usual to take it all the time as the preventative effect takes a while to build up.
We can't offer medical advice on the forum (it's in the T's and C's) and it would be dangerous to do so as we can't see each other!
However, the aim for asthma treatment is that patients should be symptom free, night cough is a very common symptom of asthma and I would recommend that you consult your GP/asthma nurse if you are experiencing symptoms at night to look at a management plan and possibly add on therapies or changing your inhalers.
Do you keep a peak flow diary? This can also help with managing your condition. There are lots of useful booklets etc in the all about asthma section of this site and you can order some of the publications which are very helpful.
Hope you find the help you're looking for in managing your asthma and again,
Welcome!

Welcome, and another from cold wee Scotland, lots of deep snow where you are.
Fee's right, we don't know what inhalers, but you have a reliever which you take as and when required, but also a preventer that you should take all the time. Not sure as you haven't listed them in your profile, but could be the inhaler you have, or just the cold.
hi MOJO
welcome,
try putting something under your bed at night so head is higher, better that 2 pillows that would give you a stiff neck.
Love Glynis xx
getting the most from your inhalers
hi mojo
Iam a life long friend of asthma, i find using a spacer with my inhalers gives you more than 20 percent more medicine than using the inhaler by its self also being propped up in bed and having mattres and pillow protectors on relieves symtoms also alittle fresh air from an open window helps give you a break at night from your symtoms
cheers for now scott
Hey mojo
I have had asthma for as long as i can remember, when it comes to night time i always find takin gmy inhalers and then getting into bed with plently of pillows is the best thing to do. I have often mixed togther butter and suger and had that before bed, it lines your throat so you will not feel the need to cough. Its an old solution but trust me it works!. I hope you try this and i hope it works Good luck!
any advice please for a newbie
Hi all ! im new to the forum & would just like to know if my symptoms are the norm for asthma .
I was told i may have asthma in march 2007 and up until now i have only suffered in the dry summer time & only needed the preventer. However in the last month it seems to have got a lot worse . I am having things like heartburn , the fluttery throat thingy , the obvious breathlessness , on several occasions close to passing out & ( dont know if this is anything to do with asthma, but ) feeling quite full , bloated & breathless even after a light lunch !! Now im not overweight if thats what you're thinkin , 41 yrs old ,6ft tall , 13 stone , 34"" waist ( & the obligatory baldness ! tee hee !) & considered to be relatively fit . Ive been to the docs & am now trying out seretide 125 & ventolin & doc says it could well be the very cold spell that has triggered this off ! could this be poss ? Sorry to bore you all to tears with such a long first post but im just in a bit of shock at going from mild asthma to panicky all of a sudden . any replies welcome . thanks
