I have problems with thick gunk which often gets stuck making breathing hard. Last night i tried a saline neb but it made my wheezing worse. Has anyone else had this happen to them? Takecare sadwheezer.

I use a flutter valve and physio to help me move the gunk ion my chest. it makes it easier to bring up. I am lucky as I live with a physio so can get physio whenever i need to help move stuff but since getting the flutter valve device it isjust as good at bringing stuff up.

I find saline nebs are good but have never found they make chest worse. they have at higher concentrations ie hyertonic.

PM if you want more info on flutter thing.

Olive

Hi sadwheezer,

I have bronchospasm if given saline nebs so have been advised to avoid them! Have you used them in the past? I've never used the flutter device like Olive but have found chest physio/postural drainage very helpful in the past for gunk.

I'd be very cautious if you have had worsening symptoms when using them and speak to your gp/consultant.

Take care

Thanks for your replies have taken the nebs back to the pharmacy will be sticking to atrovent and salbutamol in future. That was the first time i had tried saline, and the last. They were prescribed a while ago for use with infections. Will have to look into the flutter device. Thankyou. Sadwheezer

I too have bronchospasm whenI have saline nebs. My consultant no longer endorses them as he's found this to be an increasing problem. I take carbocystine which has helped tremendously.

You need to chat to your GP/ consultant about helping with the gunk.
