Pulmicort Nebs

I have pulmicort nebs at my GP's surgery, I find they always make me drowsy and sick. Is this normal?

Ive told my GPs but they didnt seem concerned. So Im just wondering if anyone gets this.

I thought pulmicort was a steroid? Not a reliever? So why have it at a GPs surgery?

I honestly have no idea!

Ive been having them since last may with salbutamol and atrovent combined.

I didnt know that Pulmicort was a preventer either, but I vaguely remember having a green inhaler when I was about six!

The docs are arranging a loan of a home nebuliser but its taking ages.

The green inhaler is serevent a long acting reliever but I don't think pulmicort contanis severent (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). I would of thought like most other inhaled steroids its a build up thing so you need to have it like twice a day for it to be affective??

I am totally confused. :S

I have seretide 250 at the moment in addition to atrovent as inhaled preventers and singulair and pred.

I have nebulised atrovent (with Salbutamol) as a releiver.

Yeh Salbutamol and Atrovent are relievers just doesn't make sense that you have Pulmicort at the GPs surgery every so often I don't really see what difference it would make because your not even on a pulmicort inhaler.

Yep TKS your right pulmicort is a steroid and im confused to, think this GP must be? wont be off any benefit as one offs, also recent research shows steroid nebs are of no more benefit than inhaled steroids, just take up 15mins longer of your day twice?

Simi how often do you have nebs at GP? just when acute or everyday? just worried as yopu said on inhaled atrovent and nebbed? as should be one or the other? can have nebbed and inhaled salbutamol.

I have the pulmicort nebs when Ive had an attack usually.

I usually have nebs about 4/5 times a month on average.

But apparently they are arranging a loan of a home nebuliser not sure whether this is for emegencies or on a day-to day basis.

Yeah the atrovent on both neb and inhaled.

I don't see what difference it would make during an attack because as we've said its not a reliever and 4-5 times a month wouldn't make much difference, you need it daily for it to be affective.

When i had them yrs ago before i got severe they gave my back nausea and vomiting and bad headaches, and didnt bake any difference to my asthma ?

Experience of looking at the medication plans GPs send with the children on Kick Asthma holidays has taught me that some GPs have VERY random ways of treating (or attempting to treat) asthma.

Perhaps Cathy would be so kind as to suggest a way of broaching the subject with your GP...?

Some doctors do have some odd ideas, but they're very few and far between. What I see more often is that the purpose of the various inhalers hasn't been communicated properly, or has been misunderstood at the receiving end. I will quite regularly see patients who say that they have discontinued their becotide because ""I didn't feel any difference when I took it, you know, cos when you take the ventolin you can feel it working, but I couldn't feel the brown inhaler doing anything"". Understandable that the patient then thinks it's not working, because they haven't been told what to expect or how becotide works.

As an aside, I haven't yet worked in a practice that has anything other than salbutamol nebs in the cupboard - certainly not steroid nebs, as we'd never really need to use them. Have to say I'm a bit confused as to why you'd be having Pulmicort nebs for an attack.

Went to my GP to have another neb this time my mum insisted on only having salbutamol.

Must be a pain having to keep going gp's for these nebs, you very lucky having gp that open on a saturday.
