Home Nebs
heyy,
Sorry your've not had a good few days- I hope your feeling better really soon!
I too am awaiting xolair, and under a difficult asthma specialist and I have had a home neb for quite some time.I don't understand why it would affect your treatment at the Brompton (although i believe they are quite strict with the use of home nebulisers). What have you been prescribed to use in your nebuliser? Perhaps your GP is trying to keep you out of hospital? however if you feel uncomfortable with his discission I would definetly phone your consulatant or someone at brompton and see what they say? I use nebuliser on strict rules from my consultant, and if I need more than four nebs in a day then I have to go up to the hosp or if a neb isn't working. Did your GP give you instructions on when and how you should use your neb?
Hope some of that helps ally xx
My gp has prescirbed me budesonide respules and combivent nebulise solution, yeh i hate goin into hospital he is writing me a strict protacol, i ve only just returned to uni after having 6 months of with it and in the time being in intensive care ive just about had enough and have even thought bout quitting my course
Hi chelsea21
I can understand your frustration with your asthma and uni. I ahve recently quit uni due to my asthma and numerous hospital and ICU admissions. I do hope thigns settle for you. I also hope the uni are being supportive with you and helping you as much as they can.
If you arent happy with the nebs you ahve been given I would phone your consultant. I take both the nebs you have been given. One is a steriod neb and works in the same way the steriod inhalers work. The other neb is a type of brinchodilator.
Please if it gets worse go to the hosp. But if your not happy about using the neb. Speak to your consultant and failing that maybe phone your resp ward and speak to them.
(Me thinking aloud- i wasnt sure GP's could prescribe pulmicort nebs. i thoguht they had to eb done by a consultant first then the gp will scribe a repeat.)

I would check with the Brompton they are happy for you to go down the home neb route, give them a call and ask to speak to one of the asthma team.
It is weird, because my gp was the one who originally put me on home nebs too and i went to my consultant and he was in total agreement and now i use nebs as my reliever. I would talk to your consultant as i dont know bromptom, but don tworry too much, GP's sometimes specialise in asthma as well as consultants.
Thanx for all your replays my asthma has settled over past few days after a short course of steroids my GP has commenced me on the nebs to reduce the amount of oral steroids and prevent hospital admissons, i have a strict protocol if after 1 combivent it doesnt ease call an ambulance as i will need hospital treatment, although my previous admissions have left me scared of being an inpatient
