Fostair 100/6

Hi Everyone,

I’m currently on Fostair 100/6 3 puffs twice daily. Reading the information leaflet it says to use within 3 months of dispensing from pharmacy. Does this mean 3 months from the first puff once taken out of the fridge or can I take it home and keep it in the fridge for 3 months only? The expiry date exceeds 3 months. I always have extra in case I need extra. Surely if it’s in the fridge I can keep it longer than 3 months prior to use. Thank you in advance 🙂

its from first use as long as stored in fridge at correct temperature ( i believe its 5 centigrade or less but not frozen then its ok up until expiry date according to our pharmacist and thats what we work with.

Thank you for your reply. Yes I think as long as it’s in the fridge unopened it will be ok. I assume this is what the pharmacy does anyway. As soon as I get mine i bring it straight home and keep it in the fridge until I need to use it. The leaflet is confusing though.

I’m not 100% sure but I think it might mean once the foil packet has been opened the 3 months starts. I use the same inhaler but I have not been told to put in the fridge!

I do know that it must be kept in the fridge until you use it. Once it’s opened then you don’t need to keep it in the fridge. Thanks for your reply

yes its ince opened but up till that point it needs to be stored in fridge.

I always go by the note "Use three months from dispensing" which is the date on the chemist label 😃

This is my point. Can it be kept in the fridge unopened for longer than 3 months? I know once the first puff has been used it can be kept out of the fridge for 3 months only

I would only use it as per issue date but you can always check with the chemist. Anyway I would think you get one issued from your doctor every month so no need to keep it 🤷‍♀️

I didn't know Fostair had to be kept in the fridge. My pharmacy doesn't store these inhalers in a fridge - they're stored on a shelf along with other meds (Boots). They dispense on a quick turnaround and I wonder if that's why they don't bother? But what about storage before it hits the pharmacy? The manufacturer advice is; "Store your Fostair NEXThaler in the original package in order to protect from moisture.Only remove the inhaler from its pouch immediately before first use. Once opened, do not store above 25°C, and use within 6 months. You can use the label on the box to write down the date you open the pouch."

Thank you but I’ve googled the Fostair NEXThaler as I wasn’t sure what it and it’s not that. It’s just Fostair 100/6 In a pink case

Hi,I was told by the chemist 100/6 doesn't but the 200 does need to be kept in fridge until you start using it. 😃👍

Everyone says it must be kept in the fridge, please do you mean normal household fridge? I have an unopened Fostair but it’s just been on my kitchen island, do I need to pop it in the fridge?

Household fridge. As I said above this doesn’t apply to the NEXThaler version of Fostair, just the other type.

Oh Ohkay! Thank you! I use the Nexthaler! Thank you so much for clarifying!

Yes mine goes in the fridge. I think yours may be different to mine. I just googled the NEXThaler as I didn’t know what it was and it’s different to mine

I have been using fostair and have 2 spares and no issues even when not keeping in fridge

You can keep it until expiry date in your fridge. I get two issued at a time and keep one in the fridge until I need it. I’ve done this for years.

I'm guessing we are talking about Fostair, and not Fostair Nexthaler which may have different instructions?

I use Fostair 100/6 inhaler, it's in the fridge when it's dispensed to me but I was never told to put it in the fridge, but I do pop it I the fridge when I get home until I need it, although the leaflet inside the pack implies that a double pack needs to stored in the fridge before use, but a single pack doesn't. I don't keep in the fridge when I start using it.

Hi everyone Thanks as I didnt realise you had to keep it in a fridge as I have 1 inhaler I'm using and I get my new prescription(2 x inhalers) once I'm half way through the one I'm using, so from now on I'm going to keep them stored in the fridge until I use them so thanks everyone

Apparently there’s 2 different fostair inhalers I’ve learned. The NEXThaler doesn’t need to be kept in the fridge I’m led to believe.

Yeah it does seem that way reading through the feed, I'm on fostair 100/6 this is the one that should be stored in the fridge until ready to use

if you're taking three puffs twice a day it isn't going to last three months, but like you, I like to have an extra one so i never run out, when i start on that i reorder then keep the new one in the fridge until i need to use it.

I’d been using this for at least 3 years before a pharmacist mentioned in passing I should store it in the fridge until I started using it 😳

One other consideration: I’m not on Fostair, but my insulin has to be kept below 8C until it’s in use, so how far you live from the pharmacy matters, as once the temperature’s gone up, the countdown starts. Especially in hot weather I collect it with a cool bag and freezer block, so I can be sure it stays chilled and the expiry date on the box is still valid. Don’t know if the same would apply to the Fostair?

Thank you. I’m only 5 min walk away

I do not keep mine in the fridge at all.

I might keep it in the fridge for longer but then use it within three months of being unchilled.

The package actually states to be kept refrigerated until dispensed by pharmacist. The pharmacist tells you to keep refrigerated until use normally. I think it would be more helpful for proper instructions to be put on the packaging. Use within 3 months of initial dose. :))

Yes I keep my spare in the fridge, and as I understand it, it must be used up once opened within 30 days. Once I am using it I don't keep it in the fridge and my dosage means I use it in a month anyway. The leaflet isn't clear. Do have a chat to your pharmacist - they always give good advice :)
