It is absolutely licenced for asthma, Symbicort isn't an inhaler usually prescribed for COPD. The difference between the 100 and 200 is the strength of steroid. I hope this helps!

Yes, Melanie is correct, many asthmatic people use Symbicort. I'd be happy enough with the 100 if my asthma was controlled. I certainly wouldn't want to take double the dose of steroids in the 200 if not necessary . Actually I don't think you'd be prescribed it if your asthma is controlled.

That's great feedback P and thanks for coming back really appreciated.....if it's any help to others out there I was on ventolin then was switched apparently for eco reasons and I've had no issues in fact it's been a whole lot better...I'm using it as a preventer with the option to use a reliever if that helps anyone out there...stay safe all....stew👍

I took Symbicort for years, now on Fostair 100/6 which is quite adequate. In fact this dose (spray type) can be used up to 8 times a day so as a reliever as well as preventer - it's called the MART regime, perhaps your Symbicort is also one of the MART inhalers too. The leaflet will explain all. ........yes, 'they' don't seem to Iike prescribing ventolin (makes me mad, its an extremely small carbon footprint compared to diesel fuel & cows farms) 🙄

Not just the spray type - the dry powder (turbohaler) can also be used for MART.

Same link someone else posted, under Symbicort Turbohaler 100/6

With evidence that your aquaintance is maby worth listening to with a pinch of salt 😁, you are on the MART by you mentioning the reduction of ventolin so therefore can normally use it more frequently when required. I was on that inhaler for many years and personally one that helped me well. Glad its working for you

looks as if you've been prescribed a low dose - both are very definitely licensed for Asthma and are also sometimes prescribed for COPD.

My daughter been taking symbicort 80/ 4.5She been on this for year now . She was on budesonide inhalation since 18 months old

All i know is she goes to top notch hospital with top notch doctors .

And symbicort is for asthma

Symbicort has different levels my daughter is on lower dose.

This product is used to control and prevent symptoms (wheezing and shortness of breath) caused by asthma or ongoing lung disease (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease-COPD, which includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema). It contains 2 medications: budesonide and formoterol.

Hello Stu, I couldn't get on with Symbicort at all. GP changed my inhaler to a Fostair 100/6 and haven't had any trouble since. I like the Fostair, easy to use and a 'normal type' of inhaler. Hope that is helpful ?

Hi

I can confirm that this is for asthma as my daughter was introduced to it when her asthma was very uncontrolled and requiring huge amount of Ventolin. This definitely is a good inhaler in comparison to Ventolin as it has lesser side effects like dizziness, tremors etc. I feel your acquaintance probably got mixed up as this isn’t licensed for children especially under 12.

It’s a reliever and preventer in one for people who may require Ventolin quite often or to control inflammation on daily basis for moderate to severe asthma.

This is my understanding as this has steroids in it which controls Inflammation hence reducing asthma symptoms in inhaler form rather than tablets which again have more side effects.

It’s good to know your asthma in good control and probably require maintenance with this regime.

Best wishes

The goal is to use the smallest amount of steroid to keep you controlled. If this controls your asthma, then it is enough for you. If not controlled, you could be put on the higher dose of steroid inhaler.

The Symbicort 100 works for me and I don't have COPD.

I believe it's the lowest dosage of asthma medication I've been on for some years.

Seretide 250 gave me a persistent cough for 6 years. Doctors of no help to diagnose. The day I changed to DuoResp Spiromax 160, my severe night cramps ceased and a week later the cough was gone, touch wood, never to return [3 years ago]

Reduced the dosage in Australia using Symbicort 100/3 [ Doctor said this had the same components as DuoResp Spiromax 160 but a lower dosage]

Air quality in London means I'm back to the DuoResp Spiromax 160 but will revert to Symbicort 100 when back in Australia.

I'm not a fan of Seretide, and pleased the lower dosage of steroids can work, but everyone is different. [I'm 71]
