I see my copnsultant every three months. I had pulmery embolisms in both lungs last october ( extensive ) on warfarin for life but thats beside the point. What im getting at is that every time i see him he wont take my asthma seriously, even climbing the stairs to get to his clinic is a killer. Im left feeling weak , out of breath, hot, ect. He says my embolisms are all clear now and that my heart has recovered and to exercise as my breathlessness is due to being unfit ....... I totally disagree but seem to be falling on deaf ears. My peak flow is usually around 250 so not bad i suppose. Im on seretide 500 twice daily, montelucast, hayfever meds as allergic to trees n grass n they set off my asthma , and have my inhaler ( which I have to use alot ) ....
I was on aminophylline but it put me in hospital with extremely high blood pressure and pulse, was on a heart machine for four days :-(, and in for 7.
Had scans of the heart and untrasounds ect, the heart is fine so it has to be the asthma, any ideas anyone.
Ps read the post about the earwigs n fluff, will be checking my inhaler before use now , ugh, anybody know where u get these inhaler covers from ?
I have one in black but looks a bit odd in company. Thinking of re-ordering one in khaki or pink.
Wish they did one in denim blue.
Smiles and sunshine,
Moira xx
Donna, gosh you have had a rough old time. You are going to hate me for this but your consultant is probably right, 3 days in bed can seriously reduce your exercise tollerance and you have clearly been very unwell. Even more bad news you have to work quite hard but be sensible to get yourself back to ""fit"". I would ask if your hospital do pulmonary rehab and if not ask if you can see a physio who will work out a proper plan for you and monitor it to make sure you are not pushing yourself too hard.
Bex
Thanks gals
i guess its onwards and upwards then ......... exercise and more exercise .... I have to use pain killers before exercising and use my ventolin as much as needed, so basically everytime, all the time I exercise.
I had to do a treadmill tolerance test and that showed that i get chest pain and breathless on exercise . I guess time will tell if its being unfit or my asthma.
At least im not on steroids atm, thats one blessing :-), hope I havent spoken too soon :-).
Thanks for the website re pouches, they look cool .....
TC all, Donna
Donna, can I strongly suggest you get advice from a physio before indulging in any exercise routine, I would hate for you to go splat on the treadmill
Bex
bex sorry i think i confused you
The treadmill TT was done at the hospital to monitor my heart rate and the stress it was under during exercise, although i struggled the heart coped with the stress which is one reason why I think its more asthma than being unfit. Im building my exercise routine up slowly as i have a 10 month choc lab, got him just after i came out of hospital to get me out and exercising again. Only prob is iv been back in hospital three times since and was told by the consultant under no circumstances to exercise ..... Now all the tests are done i can. Im diabetic too so arghhhhhh lol, I love walking around the country park even tho blood tests show im allergic to trees and grass , typical eh!! i just carry my inhaler and puff away ....... I also have a sos bracelet so if I do collapse people know im asthmatic, diabetic and on warfarin ..... so dont worry chick i'll not be going on any more treadmills ....the walk a day n house work is all I can manage :-), along with our other dog, 4 children, my daughter is asthmatic too .... actually that reminds me shes due a check up ... thanks for caring, love Donna xx
Hey Donna, I have 4 children well I think that is how many but there are always extra's buzzing around sometimes I need to do a headcount. I often wonder if I would need a muster point and role call in case of a fire Luckily I live in a big old victorian house so there is plenty of room, and there is always the cellar if they get too much
Take it slow and build it up slowly no running before you can walk and yes I can hear the rest of you shouting. Do as I say not as I do
