This is my first post although I have been a member for a while. I have OA in my right knee however last night my left knee buckled under me and I am unable to walk. I was taken to the hospital but nothing found on my x-ray and my blood tests were normal. The pain in the back of the knee and in my calf is excruciating. I can't put any weight on the left leg. I have another appointment tomorrow morning t the hospital and they have given me crutches to get around the house. Resting in bed and taking ibuprofen. Have had to call in sick to work. Feeling very low and wondered if anyone has any advice that may help? Willing to try anything...also, does anyone have any advice of what to ask at m appointment tomorrow? Look forward to hearing from you. Best wishes, Denise

Pain in left knee and unable to walk...
Hi Denise. I was diagnosed by doctor with OA as I had pain/swelling in my left knee. Went bilberry picking and came home unable to walk- I took things further with a sports injury specialist- turns out I had a fallen arch in my foot which seriously alters my knee alignment. This was the culprit to all my problems. I wear insoles I got at Boots for £30 and have stopped doing silly things (like trying to carry my grandchildren around) my problems have virtually ceased altogether. Not saying your problem is the same thing, but if you are having pain in calf etc it sounds like you should consider is there something else like a fallen arch that is triggering it? Even my hip was clicking! My doctor diagnosed OA so swiftly. Given appointments with physio, pain killers etc and it was little help. It only took a good sports injury guy a few minutes to see what my problem was. May not be the same kind of problem for you, but I can feel your pain and distresss and would love to think your issue could be resolved so easily. I’m 54 and could not have imagined carrying on my active life with the pain I had at the time. Please keep us posted xxx
Thinking further and reading your post again, if it is in fact OA in your right knee it may be that you are trying to compensate in your walking which is now beginning to affect your left leg?
Thank you so much for replying. I have had Plantar Facitis (wrong spelling I know) which a physiotherapist gave me lots of exercises for. He is a sports Physio amd I paid to see him which was the best 40 minutes treatment I could have had. Having done the exercises it's under control however the fallen arch sounds plausible. I do have a podiatrist who recommended insoles in my shoes and I do wear them as she said my foot was very flat. Going to ask about this today. Will let you know what they say.
Really useful to hear about your experiences and there is some hope.
I take turmeric and black pepper capsules for my OA and it works wonders for the pain.
An x-ray would not show soft tissue damage. I have osteoarthritis in a number of joints and from MRI and ultrasounds it was the soft tissue surrounding the joint that caused the problem.
Well if you suffer from plantar fasciitis too it would be almost inevitable that you are not walking in a natural style. It is unbelievable how so many other issues kick in further along your body because you don't tackle the root cause, as I said, even my hip played up... because of my arch! Good luck today and remember...don't go carrying anything heavy either!
Hi denise i had terrible pain behind knee& upper thigh& down my calf .. it turned out to be bakers cyst which showed up on xray... i have since had total knee replacement but still have problem with bakers cyst... hope you get some answers soon
