Hi I have arthritis in my big toe and have had the steroid injections but they didn’t help, I have now been referred to the hospital for possible surgery, has anyone had the operation and could you tell me how you are after , can you bend your toe to walk normally are there any after effects, Thank You.

My sister had this done about ten years ago. She found it helpful eventually. I’m afraid she’s passed away now so I can’t ask her for more information - all I remember is that she was glad she’d had it done and said I should get mine done too. I haven’t though.
Do you have a bunion? You could have a fusion surgery. You won’t be able to bend your toe but should be able to walk as normal. You can’t wear high heel shoes though! Think it takes about six weeks to heal. I didn’t find it too painful.
I had foot surgery when my foot was straightened some 6 years ago and bits of bone shaved off, toes pinned and a plate put in make straight. Still straight and best thing I've ever had done as now have 2 normal feet and no pain at all. My foot bends normally and the scars are on the side except for a few pin dots you'd be hard pressed to see. Even when it was done it didn't hurt afterwards just in plaster then the big boot for a few weeks. Bunion was removed or shaved off and my big toe bends normally.
