Hi all,

Those of you with hip arthritis , are you able to get in and out of the bath. After not being able to life my leg to get in the bath for some time, I am now looking for a bath lift. I would like one with a swivel and slide seat and very sturdy. Could you tell me your experience and any suggestions please?

Thank you to all those who reply.

I got rid of my bath and replaced it with a walk in shower.

Hi cmjoyce, I can't get into a bath but due to other arthritis, like piglette I had a walk in shower instead with seat. The seats have to be installed by special people there are also baths with side door for getting in . Beware of those belt type bath gadgets, also the swivell type seats that need extra room for manovering. Your local Age UK might be able to make suggestions or occupational health or have a look on Arthritis Actions webpage for advice. It is very much a personal thing , dependent on severity of your Arthritis and the size of your bathroom. Do give it careful consideration. A cheap option is a step like a caravan step and grab bars. Good luck with it and happy new year PS remember you have to get in and out of the bath.

My mother purchased a seat that sits partly on the outside of tub and inside of tub so all she has to do is scoot over.

I can't comment on a swivel chair as I had a walk in shower fitted a few years ago.

It was suggested by OT at the hospital. A chair was offered but I didnt think I'd be happy as at that time I was having bouts of severe sciatica as well as arthritis. Found getting out of the bath was very painful, was referred to hospital OT by my gp. So a shower it was and OT got a grant for it as well.

Never looked back. I have asthma so being able to sit more comfortably and manage in a shower was like a dream. I'd recommend it every time. Sorry I can't be more help re a chair.
