Uncomfortable weekend

For the last two days I’ve noticed that the pain I’ve been feeling in both of my wrist is more noticeable now. Today I noticed that if I flex my right wrist back and forth to move the joint it makes it worse. Now I am right handed and do very little with my left hand if anything at all. But I am noticing it more and more now. My fear is that you lol start dropping things if it gets weak on me. What the best thing to do with this ? Should I buy a wrist brace so I can’t move it? Or is there something better I need to look into? Thanks for your responses.

Hi,

Have a look at this leaflet for exercises - take painkillers before you do them initially if necessary. Done regularly, they should become stronger as well,as less painful - but it may take a few weeks - just persevere -

I wouldn't use a brace as it is usually better to keep the joint moving. When my wife had problems with her wrists we were told by an old Doc to rub movelat cream into the wrists while massaging and stretching the joint by gentlly pulling - I wouldn't advise you to do the pulling without checking with your GP or physio. Don't know if you can do this in the current covid climate as some physios are seeing patients and some not. Definitely exercise and massage gently frequently and use your painkillers when you need them. It will take some weeks though. Hope you find something that works.

Hi JDQuinn75 , sorry to hear that your wrists are hurting at the moment.

As others have mentioned, regularly exercising the joints where you feel arthritis is essential, as it helps to strengthen the muscles that protect and support the joints. Exercise has even been proven to help reduce the pain of arthritis and improve function.

The Arthritis Action charity website has a number of simple exercises you can try while sitting down, including some hand-specific exercises that may help you exercise your wrists. However, do speak to your GP or healthcare professional if you have any worries based on your own situation.
