Salty taste to my morning coffee

I think I wrote on here last year that my coffee was tasting salty and I was very frustrated because I love to have one cup in the morning. Some others on here said they had the same problem but no one including my doctor of what caused it. Well I had started taking Atorvastatin, which my doctor prescribed last year, when this started happening. I never thought this would be the cause, at least for me. I went off of it a few months ago and I noticed my coffee actually tasted like coffee! Well last week my doctor asked me why I had stopped taking it and I told him it was just one more pill I didn't want to take. He made me feel guilty so I started it up again last week and guess what I noticed....My coffee was tasting like salt again! :( so I am assuming that the Statin was the culprit! Has anyone else had the same experience, it only happens with hot coffee but not the iced coffee.

Hi Health4MeGo, many tablets are capable of reacting with your taste buds, just a side effect. I take my Atorvastatin last thing at night, the odd time I took it, after forgetting, in the morning I felt quite ill. It's an important one to take; according to my GP so worth having but you could try taking it at night if docs says that's OK. You'll likely to be asleep before you notice any side effects then. :)

Mike.

I do take mine also at night before bed. My doc said that same thing about it is important. Thanks for the reply!

I thought you only took them once a day? I'm on 10mg once a day.

Hi Mike,

I only take one tablet at night, it is 20 mg.

I've been on Atorvastatin for a few years and no issues of salty taste. Ask your DR is he/she can recommend another statin to try out. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply.....as of now haven't found out what caused it but I solved it.....I don't drink coffee anymore ; ) , just a tea totterer. Ha Funny thing is I don't miss it!
