I am sorry to hear you are having problems. I am 60 now and have been dealing with osteoarthritis for many years. I have severe osteoarthritis in my upper spine moderate in the lower. I have severe to moderate osteoarthritis in most of my joints. Sadly I have recently been diagnosed with chronic pain syndromes/fibromyalgia. Basically the simplest advice is keep moving all the latest research would indicate that some form of exercise is of great benefit. That my not mean going down to the gym but could just involve simple stretching and tension exercises.

At present I am on an eight week pain management programme and they have stressed the importance of keeping moving. Another aspect I found helped is insuring that your Vit D, Ferritin levels etc are kept high as these can affect levels of pain etc. I do not have a problem with weight but a number of women on the program have expressed how much loosing weight as helped the situation.

Osteoarthritis can affect us all in different ways and your problems can be many and varied. Trying to find an answer to them all can be both frustrating and at times overwhelming. What I found useful was to break my problems down into parts. Dealing with the worst problem first for example pain, and then dealing with the next. There are a lot of support groups out there, videos on YouTube etc that could help you by doing a little research.

Hi Nett69 - I wish I had a wonderful answer for you, but I am struggling as well. I just had a TKR on the right knee a month ago and have been getting really annoyed with the pain - ha ha ha.. grumble grumble.. :)

The gentle exercise Badbessie mentioned (including maybe chair yoga) can help quite a bit, although I know nothing will help completely eliminate the pain. Can you take NSAIDs? I have found that even if I just take two once a day it helps tremendously. Also, if you can take Tylenol, it has been shown to improve the effectiveness of prescription medications, so maybe that if appropriate?

Menopause is problematic of course, without the other issues. I know of some herbal remedies that can help, although they are slower than allopathic medications. What is your GP saying about these? Any help being offered? Sorry I am not more help..

Hello nett

It's awful isn't it!

I have it in my neck and toes and it has changed my life for the worst, but I am motoring on because there isn't any other choice.

Have you tried turmeric and black pepper capsules for the pain? They work well for me.

Take care.
