Diagnosed with gout from a bloodtest. Very painful big toes come out of nowhere.

This morning it woke me up and I have to walk on my heel and cannot put a shoe on.

how long does it last and how often do you get it? I was given meds which did a bit of good but it came back when I finished them, I have now got a new prescription but it doesnt seem to be working too well. It's a nightmare, shoes hurt, bedcovers hurt, hip hurts through walking on heel...it hurts. Hope your foot settles down.

It's totally unpredictable comes and goes.

Can only rub ibuprofen gel on affected area.

Try Apple Cider Vinegar also Cherry and juice

Hi sorry to hear you have the dreaded gout. There are lots of articles on line about this. I have raised uric acid levels which cause a bit of gout now and then. It is painful , takes a while to go back to normal after a flare up. Your right too it causes pain in other joints due to not walking properly. I 've just been told my gout is early osteo arthritis now. Best options for gout are change diet to low purine diet, lose weight if overweight, rest foot when in flare up, do not crash diet or overdo exercise, if uric acids are raised try all options to reduce them. Do not take tablets that raise uric acid levels i,e water tablets(diuretics) and aspirin. Cherries and cherry juice help keep the gout attacks away. Allupurinol is main drug for on going treatment but as quite a few side effects. NSAIDs are used during pain flare ups but take care if you are asthmatic. Crystals in the joints need to be controlled before they damage the joint, but in UK treatment is only given ongoing after four attacks in one year. There is a forum on line but can't recall the web page details sorry. There are also lots of books on how to proceed to keep the gout at bay. I have a new pain in my knee and lower leg which could be gout, osteo or a ligament tear. Its been extremely painful for a month but have to wait for an MRI scan before it can be treated as I already take pain killers. Hope your gout pain begins to subside soon its no fun being in uncontrolled pain for lengthy periods.

mmm I have a lot of work to do! lose weight 😫 easier said than done, change diet, wouldnt have to lose weight if that was easy lol, diuretic! been on one many years, where do I begin?? as I have said I have Montmorency cherry juice arriving today Oh .....Hallelujah I'v begun 🙂

hoping you get controll and relief from your pain 🙂, you are right pain drags you down sadly. I'm not a great med tolerator so wouldnt fancy long term treatment.. unless I had to.

Join the club , weight is my biggest health issue too apart from pain of course. You've taken the first step with the cherry juice. It won't be easy all we can do is try our best. I prefer a no tablet approach but thats not always possible. The best way is distraction if you can . Do the things you like best to take your mind off the pain. Not easy sometimes if too many things happen at once, thats my problem this year, broken shoulder, reaction to changed drugs ending me up at the hospital more than once, changing home circumstances, and now a new pain in my knee lower leg. Thats beside the problems of normal life. Hope your year has not been as up & down as mine.Keep working at things to keep the gout at bay as it is very painful when flared up.

sorry to hear you have had a lot of negative things happening, times can get tough can't they! hope things get better for you 🙂

I have been told I have Fibro and it's hard to grasp until the fatigue or whatever grips but when I feel half ok I think nah... until I feel bad again, it confuses you like crazy lol, did you ever try the cherry juice and if you did how do you rate it? I had an xray Friday so should find out the results in around a week or so, at least I might know what's going on a bit more.

Good morning Deni 52, I nearly always have cherry juice in my fridge. I get a concentrated no sugar one from Sainsburys £1.25 I think it keeps going up. Its a nice taste and does seem to keep the toe more flexi. Of course its good for you anyway as are cherries. Had an Xray myself recently might get results on Thursday if they have been downloaded to the computer. So good luck with yours.Fibro is another one of those up and down arthritises that no one understands, no matter how good or bad we feel we have to carry on. I get fed up of having to be positive when every thing thats happening is so negative even the doctors actions.Enjoy this sun apparently we might get three months of good weather starting mid June. Supposed to be good for the moral but it sure plays havoc with breathing and swollen feet. How can we think positive ??????

lol, guess our complaints are like us 'a mystery' 🤔

I will give the cherry juice a fair shot I did read it takes about 21 days to feel any benefits! hope your xray results are positive for you...in the sense of no problem lol

I wish my Xrays would be no problem . They are just to update the records for the new computer system, wont be clear but might be no further deterrioration. Have a good day

I went to the Doctors in the 1980's with Gout and was given a tablet (Allopurinol) told to take one for the rest of my life and the trouble I've had since is when I decided to stop taking them. When you first start taking these they will give you a attack of Gout.

I was given colchicine, iv just finished 2nd lot but still not sorted, so did you not resume the meds if you got the problem back?
