Arthritis in my knee
I am 46 and have Osteoarthritis in both knees the doctor told me I am too young for a knee replacement.
I have had steroid injections in both it didn't work for me but I know it can help some people.
Had it before never worked for me been sent for another one as had another opp on me knee this time they removed my cartlidge still in pain just started acupuncture as referd by pain doctor still not working tho think I might apply for disability living allowance wot you reacon
I have had 3 ops on my right knee and am really struggling with the pain and effect that it's having on my mobility. I am 55 and deemed too young.
Have anti inflammatories which have helped but they give me an upset tummy and nightmares so I only take 1 in the morning but only a 2 week course.
My biggest concern is I'm a housekeeper and I need to work full time, this is having an impact on my work and I'm very worried how I can continue if it gets worse
Anti inflammatories need to be taken with a full meal, or several pieces of cake in an Emergancy may suffice. But full meal best. Your patient leaflet will say same I would think. I wonder if you changed the brand of anti inflammatory pills that might stop the nightmares. And check what they contain. In past I've taken Ibobrufen with no ill effect.
I was told 7 years ago that I needed knee replacements both knees, but I was too young (50) and too fat (exact words used) I was fit other than the knee problem. I used to cycle, walk every where, garden and work full time. Now 7 years on my knees are bone on bone and using crutches to get about has caused problems with my hips, wrists, shoulders and neck and I now weigh 7 stone more because of lack of mobility and I cannot do anything I used to. If I had the knee replacements when this started 7 years ago I don't believe I would be in the position I am now where I lost my job with 24/7 pain, mobility problems, weight gain, depression and now because of the stress I have fibromyalgia, reliant on a carer and the benefits system. All thanks to a short sighted consultant 7 years ago. If I had the money to go private 7 years ago it would have been done straight away no question about weight or age. Sorry this is not helpful to you but beware and don't let these so called experts tell you its not possible because you are young. I know they do knee replacements for younger people. Please don't let it impact your life as it has mine. gentle hugs Joolz.x
