This is my first post on this forum. I have read a lot of your posts and find them very informative and helpful....... it's good to know you're not alone with this awful pain.
I am 59..... the big 60 in December, however, I feel at least 90 most days. I have quite severe OA in my left hip, moderate in my right, some in my spine plus 2 herniated discs L4 and L5. I also have fibromyalgia. I have an appointment to see the surgeons in August for possible hip replacement. They tried a steroid injection about a month ago which was possibly the most excruciating procedure I've ever had done..... and it didn't work.
I'm currently taking max dose of gabapentin, sertraline for anxiety/depression and Cocodamol 30/500 for pain..... it just takes the edge off it.
I'd really like to know if any of you who are going through or have been through this have experienced severe leg pain and severe pain when trying to stand up. I get locked when trying to stand up and I can't straighten my leg. It can sometimes take up to 10 minutes to actually move and sometimes I just can't do it and have to sit down again, it happens when I get out of a car too..This is really starting to worry me.
Sorry for the long post.
Regards judi

Hi Judipat, I feel for you, I have fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis in my left hip and knee. I get pain in the knee, below the knee, shooting from the knee to the hip and from the hip to the knee along with pain in the hip. All this and other pains because of the fibro. A lot of this is what they call referred pain, caused by my knee and hip arthritis but not actually all in the knee or hip, if you know what I mean.
You also have those herniated discs which can also cause leg pain.
I get stuck when getting up but I think this is when I have sat too long without moving. I try to at least stand or have a move around when the ads come on TV and it does help, something about keeping the circulation going to the joints. Getting out of the car can be tricky, I think it's my sitting position in the car. I must admit it's a bit better since we got an automatic, it's lovely to drive.
I'm, like you, 59 the big 60 being only a week away! Are you planning anything to celebrate? I'm taking the grandchildren to the zoo to feed the giraffes, it's a suprise for them. I just hope I can make it round the zoo! It's the pain that makes us feel older I think. I'm taking paracetamol and ibuprofen but have to be careful as it upsets my stomach.
I don't like the sound of the hip injection, though I've had shoulder injections which were quite painless!
Hi Judi i have Arthtitis, & fibro i suffer from Gout & had a knee replacememt & shoulder surgery recently so i know exactly what you mean about feeling 90 most days. I struggle to get up because despite having the knee replacement im now in constant pain all around the knee area from Fibro. I can walk a little but standing is torture because i also have a Coccyx injury which is very painful. I had the injections you mentioned in my knee and neck/shoulder area for Arthtritis it was a total waste of time. Have you tried swimming i love to just float in the water it takes the pressure off the whole body and is very relaxing. I attend meditatiin classes which i love. I do anything i can to distract myself from the pain because the pain as much as possible. I take Vimovo which is an antinflammetary i dont take any other pain relief as it does not work. Try & find an Arthritis Society in your area they run classes which are very helpful. I hope you find something that works for you soon. Take care gentle hugs coming your way.
Thanks for your replies, so good to know you are not alone.
Hope you have a great time at the zoo sewnsew with your grandchildren....... I too have two grandsons and get so frustrated that I can't do much with them, however, they do live quite close and I see them all the time for cuddles which is great.
I am going to start swimming heacdwrecked, I have a friend that also has fibro and we are going to go together.
First time I've replied. I too have oa. Just recently diagnosed inflammatory rheumatoid ,I am 70 yrs old .had two total knee replacements 4 years ago, absolutely fab. Hip was bad then, but much better with new knees.
However year1/2 ago heard hip crack When opening curtains, X-rays and nothing. But since constant pain in left hip. Now awaiting hip op end of August.. After hip injections and Mri scan. Walking and sleeping worst times.
I was also led to believe I have fybromyalgia, which I didn't think possible, but now get pain in shoulders along with all other bits previously diagnosed,
I've just tried swimming again, last week water was very cold, since then I have felt dreadful all over, and pains worst it's been anywhere. I feel so miserable.
