has anyone with bone on bone OA ever noticed their pain diminishing

I was told by a Dr that I might have the odd good day but strangely I ve had a huge drop off in pain these past four days. It’s great. It can’t last - but it would be lovely to get through Christmas without moaning and being sore.

I had my telephone appointment with Dr and he wants an up to date X-ray before proceeding with my knee

- I’ve had pain most days for months now so these past few days have been like a miracle.

Hello Paul Yes I found the same

My pain was awful so I went to see my surgeon who had replaced both my hips I was put on his list for a knee replacement but as I waited the pain just seem to go but I had it done in Nov 21

My other knee last Jan started to be so painful I waited but then thought I must do something about it so went back to him had an x-ray and was put on the waiting list for a knee replacement Well I have put myself to the back of the list as my pain is hardly there now I have the odd twinge going upstairs but not much else

I started an exercise class last April and it's helped so much It's not strenuous but an hour of a yoga type standing stretching exercises but I'm sure it's help to strengthen my muscles around my knee

So I hope so much that you find the same and that as the days go on the pain eases

Have it checked out with another x-ray of course

I joined a Versus Arthritis group too and they have some great exercises on You Tube

Wishing you a pain free Christmas

🤞🤞

Good luck

I have bone on bone on both knee caps and also on the medial joint on my left knee. I had a lot of pain and hardly able to walk in January this year, but lots of the right exercises got me mobile again and only occasional pain. In January I asked to go on the waiting list as GP said it was about 12 months. It was much faster and I could have had the op already but said I wasn't available until January. I have deferred that at least until late February as I am able to do most things. Clearly given the state of my knees both will need doing sometime. I am intending to post on that before Christmas My knee caps have been bad for 40 years and the pain comes and goes. Exercise is key but too much is also bad if it is high impact such as running. Also if I am ill or generally run down, the pain is worse.

My GP wanted to refer me early this year but as I couldn't face surgery I opted for a steroid injection. My GP not qualified to give one and no one in the building qualified either😕 I left.

As my knee had collapsed and walking was painful I decided to rest big time. Long story short I was on tablets for pre-cancer cells that led to a build up of blood clots in my lungs so painful I was admitted to hospital.

The respiratory doctor there WAS qualified to give steroids, couldn't believe it as I'd been to various NHS deps looking for help. He gave the injection and I was able to walk down the corridor without any pain. Once discharged things improved. I saw a physio soon after who told me my knee might improve as a result.

I had another steroid about a month ago and am still able to get up and down stairs, move round the house much more comfortably. I know its steroid treatment but the relief at being able to walk more easily was huge and the physio's comment was so encouraging. Wishing you well in your recovery.

My wife was limping badly with knee pain back in Aug/Sept. She was struggling along with two sticks. Saw the GP who said that it was arthritis but also pointed out that her leg muscles were rather wasted and also said that she should see the practice physio.

Since doing specific exercises and trying to increase protein intake, she has been much better - forgetting her walking stick sometimes.

No magic cure, but pretty sure that strengthening the correct muscles can help support the joint and relieve pressure on the worn parts.

Also, having done a bit of reading on the subject, one actually needs more protein to maintain muscle strength in old age - and the tendency is to eat less.

hi

Thanks for that - interestingly we d been eating a lot more lean meat and protein rich food of late in our diet and I’d bought a few pairs of really good trainers and done a bit of walking.

Fingers crossed it lasts a bit longer .
