osteotomy of knee

Hi everyone,

I am new here, and having been having knee pain for a while. I have ligament tear and degenerative changes. The consultant has suggested osteotomy, has anyone had this surgery, if so I would be very grateful for any information how they got on, and the recovery period.

Thanks

Hi ss2jane.

I haven't had an osteotomy but a friend had one a few years back. It was painful afterwards and took a number of weeks for him to recover from the surgery, and there was a lot of exercises he had to do to get back to scratch but he was happy in the end with it. It saved him from having to have a knee replacement which he was particularly happy about. If you have confidence in your surgeon then I'd take his advice. I always think the best question back to them is 'what would you do?'

Good luck if you go ahead with it and I hope life improves.
