I'm due a total knee replacement next month.Advice, please, on aids to source beforehand.

I already have an easy reach, a raised toilet seat, and a leg lifter from when I had a new hip last year.

Thanks 😊

If you have all the ‘extras’ after a new hip you are probably pretty well placed for your new knee.

I had mine nearly four months ago so am happy to help in any way I can. If you can try to find out if you will be sent home with an ‘ice wrap’. I invested in an electric ice therapy machine which was a game changer for me. It helped so much with the pain and swelling.

I used a thermal beaker that hooks over a walking frame to carry round holds hot or cold drinks. Plenty of carriers in bedroom for rubbish especially if bedroom is upstairs. I used a commode and camping toilet in the first few weeks as mobility is slower. You may need some extra laxatives as the drugs given upset your normal functions. Another thing that is useful is wide shoes rather than slippers, with velcro tabs as the feet sometimes swell. A garden kneeler indoors can be useful as you start to get mobile again helps to let you bend. Good luck Ps make sure you have lots of your favourites to eat in the house as carrying is limited at first as is cooking .

I had my second TKR 10 days ago. I found that my dressing gown belt was really helpful to help lift my leg. Also, Amazon sell bags which are 100% watertight to enable you to shower as normal which makes you feel better. If I can help any further, please just ask.

I have a portable pedal exerciser which helps keep the knee(s) mobile and helped my recovery. It costs less than £30 on Amazon at the moment and you use it whilst sitting in a chair. Start gradually and go from there. It also helps with muscle strength.

It is also useful on the table for arm or shoulder pain to keep the limb more flexible.

That sounds like a very useful bit of kit...I'll follow up. Thanks

Mega thanks to everyone for your great advice, hints and tips. I've got my days, 24 Aug, so I'm going to start getting the house ready, the bits I already have out of storage, and some new bits bought.

Thank you all again 🙏 ❤
