Diabetes!!? ...

For some reason i've got it into my head that i might have, or get, diabetes. I know this must sound rediculous but i need someone else to tell me its definitely rediculous as i keep coming back to it even though i dont know enough about it to know. I dont want to look too much into it online as i think it might make me even more concerned, plus im petrified of the method in which you would control it - i do not want to discuss this fear here please, i won't be able to read responses if we're talking about this.

When people ask you about your family history of heart problems diabetes etc etc i have no idea! Ive got quite a big family and there is quite an age difference between me and the rest of them, meaning they seem to think i must know everything that happened pre-me, without ever actually being told...

My grandfather apparently had diabetes (didnt know until a week ago), my uncle has diabetes (he found out just over two years ago), my aunty and cousin for some reason tested themsleves on his kit just over a week ago and had higher blood sugar than he had and have since been to a GP and been told they are hyperglycemic.

I lost alot of weight at the end of last year, due to depression and anxiety i lost my appettite and stopped eating, in order to put the weight back on, as i realised i looked hurrendous, i decided to eat everything, even though i wasnt hungry, so that evenually my body would get its appetite back. It worked, yey me! Unfortunantly this now means im constantly hungry, i have an apt with a dietition next week as food (any it seems) makes me bloat (not a bit, a lot, think 4 months pregnant). I think it could be Coeliac disease (gluten itollerance), but need to get a professional to confirm. Ive been keeping a food diary every day, i love my fruit and veg and have a very balanced diet BUT since trying to put weight back on ive been eating chocolate and sweets (and sometimes cake) EVERY day and on most days for pudding i'll have pie or ice-cream.

What are the effects of diabetes? I'm not very good at knowing when i'm ill, i have a great immunse system it seems but sometimes i just dont know when ill is ill if that makes sense(?) Its not until i look back on something that i realise how bad i might have been at the time. I trust science implcitly which means sometimes i power through when i might actually need some help. I have little blisters on the inside if my toes which is a bit of a wierd place, i dont wear heels or flip flops (obviously, brr) i am a half size though so logic says its just my toes rubbing together, duh, my anxiety says ive worns these shoes hundreds of times and it never happens, its diabetic foot! My mind then tells me how bloomin stupid that is.

A colleague of mine went through a terrible time a few years back and then was found on the collapsed on the floor in the ladies, turns out she had got diabetes too. Can a shock to the system give you diabetes? I know the mind can all sorts of things, is anything possible? You do hear of people becoming ill after a break down quite alot, dont you?

I must be being paranoid, can someone say something to calm my mind please? Silly request i know! My brain needs a tranquiliser i think. Thank you xx

Hi, the fear is worse than knowing. My husband tells me I worry over everything & in 99.9% of my worries they never come to anything. Please get yourself tested, put your mind at rest. If you have diabetes you REALLY must address it.

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 4 years ago. It can be hereditary, it can be caused by poor diet, being overweight-there are many causes. The best thing is to see your g.p. who can put your mind at rest. I was put on tablets a couple of years ago and now have an annual check at the doctors, so far, it has remained stable. If you follow all the directions that your g.p. gives you, it's plain sailing and you will barely notice any change. There are many myths surrounding diabetes, don't listen to them. Once you've seen your g.p., please post it on here and I can point you in the direction of a brilliant website. Remember, get checked-it's the first step to relieving the pressure and, secondly, don't worry!
