The doctor has suggested I stop Xanax..especially daily. She does not think its appropriate, especially considering the bradycardia and low bp (which is the healthiest thing about me..haha) She has suggested the lowest dose available daily Zoloft. I would love to know the good, the bad, and the ugly... prescription is sitting here staring at me but I am not sure.... I hate my anxiety and panic but do not want to create new issues, ya know? Thank you advance! :) xoxo

I won't let anyone but a psychiatrist manage my meds. And even then , if they want too quick a weaning process we discuss it (as I had a terrible experience with getting off a med too fast). I also see a therapist to help manage my depression and anxiety. Has your doctor set up a weaning schedule?

I would get a second opinion from a psychiatrist. Is your Xanax controlling your anxiety? What other treatment has been proposed to you in place of xanax ?

I agree, psychiatrist only for meds. They are specialists in their field for a reason.

As far as starting meds, it's about quality of life. If you can't manage your life right now, what's the point of not trying? Just keep in mind it takes time to work. Sometimes you have to trial another med or two to find one that works for you

That’s a tough one? I have found that doctors do Not always know what’s Best for US? I was on medication that I felt was helping me, well she took me off it because it was making me gain weight? Thing is I was already overweight and gave me something that I had already tried that I said didn’t work. She gave it to me anyway. Find another counselor. He/she don’t sound sure? But then again people don’t always respond the same?

I agree with your Dr. about not taking Xanax but probably not for the same reason.

This is a quote from a Harvard Medical School article, "People who had taken a benzodiazepine for three consecutive months or less had about the same dementia risk as those who had never taken one. But those who had taken a benzodiazepine for three to six months had a 32% greater risk of developing Alzheimer's, and those taking one for more than six months had an 84% greater risk than those who hadn't taken one.
