I was wondering if anyone has experienced tingling/pins and needles like sensations when starting propranolol? I just started taking it yesterday and have tingling in my feet and right hand today and can’t help but feel like it must be related!
Thanks in advance

Hi, from my experience the pins and needles is a side effect of anxiety not the medication. You’ll see a lot of people including me who have had it. Keep going with it 😊
I take atenolol which is also a beta....I found my limbs grew very cold which is a common side effect. If we think about what beta blockers do, which is slow the heart rhythm and blood pressure down, I think it's reasonable to get a pins and needles feeling because the circulation is slower than it was. I would contact your pharmacist to get a professional opinion, but I wouldn't be surprised if this is something that goes away. On atenolol awhile now, I don't have the cold limbs very often or at all. I would say this is likely related and found this from the Heart Foundation website:
You may experience some unwanted side effects when taking beta blockers. You may feel feel tired and/or have cold feet and hands. Other effects might include nightmares, dizziness, skin rash, light-headedness or pins and needles.
Hope this helps and, if you're ever in doubt, definitely check with the pharmacist since they're the know all on medication. Hopefully this will subside and all will be good. Be well and take care!
Thanks for your really detailed reply! Really useful insight. My heart rate has dropped significantly from 100bpm when resting to 70bpm so makes sense to have pins and needles if my circulation is slower.
