Just moved, feeling depressed and anxious.

Hello. I've just moved from the North to Brighton and feel I may have made the wrong move. I feel the stress has been overwhelming and has triggered my depression and anxiety. I feel awful and so alone but I have contacted an organisation which I'm hoping may help. Any words of comfort or advice would be so helpful. I would be happy to chat to anyone or even meet up for a chat in or around Brighton. I have been taking Xanax at night which helps calm me down but this is unprescribed. I am also on a small dose of Amitryptiline which I have been taking for quite a while now.

Hey, I'm really sorry to hear you're feeling this way. While I haven't moved a ways around as an adult, I did a lot as a child/teen. It can be difficult to make new friendships and adjust, but remember with time, things become normal again. It's very common to feel this way. I would recommend trying to get out and become apart of your new area. Volunteer, find a group to join (as you mentioned), or find a common public area where encounters with the community can make you feel more part of your community. I know that's easier said than done, but the adjustment period can be hard. I will say to be careful with the Xanax as without the Rx, that can be problematic on top of the fact you aren't prescribed it and could become dependent on it if you take it daily for too long. Just urging caution there. Otherwise, kudos reaching out on here and even outwards in your life...and hopefully with time you'll forget about any regret you had making your move. Hoping for the best and that you get settled in. Take care for now!

I know that feeling SO well as I did a similar thing about 4 yrs ago. I moved to Devon about 4 yrs ago to be nearer my only remaining sibling & close family member. We haven't had any comms for best part of 2 yrs (at my request) & I've been through a really bad period questioning everything. I'm coming out the other side now but its tough when you're on your own. Something suggested to me was to join a Meetup group. They're all over the country _ if you just Google Meetup It will come up with the groups for your area. I'm sure in your area there will be loads. There are groups for every kind of interest - some just meet up for a chat & coffee, others are for yoga, book clubs, outdoor interests etc. It might be a good way for you to ease yourself into getting to know more folk. Good luck & stay strong - you WILL be o.k.
