Control of Panic

I've been a member for years, and followed what members are posting, but never before posted. I'd like to just let members who are having trouble with panic that this is a problem I've worked on for years with fearful fliers who couldn't get on a plane due to fear of having a panic attack.

Because, in a panic attack, a person is overwhelmed, CBT wasn't very helpful with anxious fliers. They were not able - in the middle of a panic attack - to put the CBT techniques into use. It looked like the only answer was something that would work automatically.

After several years of experimentation, an automatic way to control in-flight panic began to take shape, and in time, at least 80% of my clients flew without panic. Many found they stopped having panic attacks on the ground as well, even though the focus was strictly on flying.

So last year, I started writing a book on applying this automatic way of controlling panic in the air to automatically controlling panic in the ground. The book was released on April 23rd by New World Library, a publisher that focuses on important life-changing books.

I don't want this to be a commercial, so let me just suggest that if you are having trouble with panic and have not become panic free (not surprising since only 17% of people treated with CBT become panic free; see light gray bars in the graph; that's CBT only; dark gray is CBT and meds) find my book on Amazon; the title is "Panic Free: The 10-Day Program to End Panic, Anxiety and Claustrophobia" and use Amazon's "Look inside" feature to read a few chapters free and see if this approach interests you.

The afterword was written by neuroscientist Stephen Porges, Ph.D. Much of what is in the book is based on his research which explains how our calming system, the parasympathetic nervous system, works.

I remember you well Capt Tom Bunn LCSW :)

I'm very interested in your research as well as latest book. I'm going to

take a look at it. Personally, I believe Fear is Fear. Whether we are in

the comforts of our own bed, the fear in our mind can make us feel we

are in imminent danger. So I can see how whether in the air or on ground

the same methods to control/overcome our panic can be the same.

Good Luck on your book. Continue researching. We still have a lot to learn

about the Mind/Body Connection. The more we know and understand, the

better we are able to go forward. :) Thanks for sharing

I'm actually a user on your site Capt Tom. Keep up the great work.
