Dose increase and nausea

I increased my Zoloft about a week ago. Doctor also recommended splitting the dose between morning and night. The past couple days I’ve experienced nausea upon waking. Anyone else have this happen on Zoloft? Does it pass over time?

Hi Mongea

I remember feeling nausea in the night once or twice in the first few months of taking my antidepressant. It only happened a couple of times. I have just thought of splitting the dose as you have done as I generally feel worse in the sense of breathlessness in the morning which is my only remaining symptom now. It generally wears off during the day. I have not done it incase there are any negative effects when I am so well anyway.

Nausea could be a side effect, I think it is very likely to wear off with time but if it doesn't you could try talking to your doctor. He or she probably will not know anymore than you do but it helps to talk it through and they may advise going back to all the dose taken in the morning. You may hear from someone else what they experienced in this respect but we are all different and all react in different ways.

The important thing is that you are making progress overall and it certainly sounds as if you are. If the nausea does not last long each morning and the improvement happened largely after you split and increased the dose I would be inclined to just carry on with a split dose. It is very likely to just stop on its own whether it is a side effect or anxiety. You may then get a different symptom which will also disappear with time.

You are doing great so hang on in there.

How did the workshop with Mayo go, what were the most useful things you learned?

Very best wishes

Kim

Hi Kkimm! I am doing very well. I know you had asked earlier what things from the Mayo Clinic were most useful and I would say learning about mindfulness and mediation. While the Zoloft is definitely doing its job, these coping skills are helping me with some of the breakthrough symptoms. I am considering going up to 150 mg in a week or two if I’m still dealing with some of these.... I’ve also noticed that splitting the dose between morning and night has really helped my mornings be more ‘normal’.

How are you doing?

I take Prozac not Zoloft but every time I get it upped (or sadly cuz I mess up a lot) when I stop taking it for a few days (or even a few years I’ve been on and off it for a while) I get nauseas again, definitely recommend taking it after a meal, if you’re splitting it that’d be easy to do after breakfast and after dinner
