Waking up because I feel like my heart stops right before I fall asleep.

It's the middle of the night and I'm so sleepy but every time I am falling asleep I get a scary sensation that my heart stops, and I feel the need to open my eyes. I'm scared because I don't usually talk to any about it and while everyone is asleep I'm here just wanting to cry because I don't know what's going on with me. This is the first time that this happens to me. I am aware that I suffer from anxiety. I've been reading other peoples posts and I see some people have similar experiences and believe that anxiety is causing the scary feeling. I don't know what to do and I'm just waiting for it to be morning so I can schedule an appointment with my doctor. I am just getting more and more anxious.

Hi had the same problem few weeks ago it lasted for a while ... I was exhausted .... to frightened to go to sleep ... now it has gone ... for good I hope’ ... the anxiety is a vile thing ...
