You feel like you're not there. But you are there, most definitely. Your mind has sensed anxiety and is trying to distance you from it by making you feel you're not really here.

I first had it 44 years ago as I think I've said but as it didn't have a name then and nobody talked about it I just accepted it as part of the parcel of anxiety symptoms. And I forgot about it and it went.

You are young and don't know what's hit you. You just want to wake up and find it gone, you're back to normal. That will happen one day I promise. But you've got to see it on its way, or better still give it a hefty kick up the back side.

Your body is reacting perfectly normally bearing in mind all the fear hormone you're pumping out. Master your fear, take fresh courage, reason with yourself this is nothing to fear. In the meantime accept it calmly. Let time pass. Let lots of time pass. And the dr/dp will eventually decline and yield because your are denying it the fear that fuels it.

Lindsey I see lots of posts from you. I am very sorry you feel horrible. I had depersonalization a ling time ago.i had talk therapy and on medication and gradually got back to myself. Are you getting help for This? Was wondering because in my situation there was no way I was getting better with professional help. The dp an Dr are symptoms of extreme anxiety. Not sure what you mean by effects of it but I do know it's a very scary thing and makes you feel like your going crazy. But once you recover it doesn't leave you with any side effects or any kinda of permanent damage. The longer you wait to get help the longer it takes to recover. I suffered for 9 months before I got help. This was 30 yrs ago and no internet to Google symptoms or any forums like this to discuss it with anyone. What has happened in your life to trigger all this if you don't mind me asking?
