Taken me a while but it's suddenly dawned on me what i've been doing wrong. When my anxiety started at the beginning of the year it came out of the blue and totally changed me in every way. After the initial shock had died down and was told by my doctor it was anxiety i set about finding a cure for it. Doh!!!

There isn't a cure. It's taken me months to work this out (i'm blonde but that wasnt the reason lol).

It's taken the lovely people on here and their posts to get it into my thick skull. There is no cure, but there are ways to live with it so that it doesnt interfere with your daily life.

My anxiety has made me a virtual recluse, stopped me working, stopped me caring about anything or anyone other than how i'm feeling from one hour to the next until i found that cure.

Now i'm actually feeling a lot better that that burden has been lifted. I'm looking at my anxiety (and it's still with me) in a new way now. More as an unwanted guest than an enemy.

Not gonna fight it anymore and i'm going to approach every day as it is and see how best i can get through it.

Just love this site and it's people xx

SarahjaneR, I would question what you say about there not being a cure for anxiety disorder. Some people have one episode and recover and are never bothered with it again. Many of us, and I suspect it's a high percentage, have inherited or genetic anxiety disorder so it can re-occur.

I'm an advocate of the late Doctor Claire Weekes and she says that if you learn to cure yourself once (ie using her Acceptance method or some other srlf-help method to desensensitise your nervous system) then she considers you're cured because if it happens again you know how to recover because you've successfully done it before.

I can see what she means Jeff. Hopefully once i get through this bad spell i will be able to cope much better should it happen again. This came on suddenly and completely out of the blue.

sarahjaneR, and that's how anxiety gets to us each and every time. Coming out of the blue, w/o any warning. In doing that it promotes the "what ifs" in our minds and before long we are under threat at all times. But we can change that......

It goes beyond listening to Dr. Weekes theory on acceptance. Allowing the fear to float past you and not think twice about it, is what will make the difference. It will just take some practice before you will see the difference it makes and then the ball will start rolling in the right direction.

It's all about getting control back in your life and not allowing negative thoughts take you down the wrong path. Dr. Claire Weekes set up the path to healing. We have 2 choices where the road divides, Acceptance or Fear. Acceptance is the way to go for you to reach your goal, Anxiety Free. xx

The rest of ehat you say is exactly right, Sarahjane, accept the symptoms for the time being, coexist with the uninvited guest and carry on with your life without constantly checking to see if the symptoms have gone yet, they will go in their own good time sure enough.
