My pdoc wants me to switch from xanax to klonopin, I've been on xanax for 4 weeks.

What's everyone's opinions on klonopin? He would like me on a maintenance dose.

Thank you

I personally am not a fan of Xanax, but only because it doesn't seem to last very long. What it feels like to me is that Xanax hits hard and fast and has a short period of time where it's therapeutic. I have been on klonopin before, and in comparison, it tends to feel like it lasts much longer, doesn't have as much of an initial kick, but it is effective if you need to take a benzodiazepine throughout the day. I currently take Ativan 1mg as needed, but I moved to a different state and I think it was just provider preference that he switched me. Ativan and klonopin seemed equally effective for me. I think if you have a constant anxious state as I do, you'll appreciate the long life of klonopin.

The only thing that has worked for me is klonopin, it is very long lasting My doctor won't prescribe xanax.

It has helped me a ton
